Good to know! Any input on the older jetta TDI's? Not very much fun to drive but 40+mpg sounds like a winner to me.

This is way off topic, sorry. Did I mention that my LC is my daily driver? :p

Currently the wife uses the hundy as the DD. Only does about 25 miles round-trip which is nothing to complain about compared to the commutes of others. It's paid for so we only pay for gas and oil changes which is nice.

With a move planned we will continue to use the hundy and augment it with a smaller more efficient car like a Mazda3 or Mazdaspeed3 (if I'm lucky). Have also thought about a GTI and even the Ford Fiesta if we decide to buy new.

My 80, which I bought from a neighbor with 140K miles, now has 162K and is my DD. The 100 used to be the DD, but my commute is 54 miles round trip and the miles started piling up. Right now, its primarily a weekend expedition vehicle.

Only thing about the 80 is it's 16+ years old and things are starting to break and its starting to add up $$$ (EGR valve, oxygen sensors, ac evaporator, various leaks). Also, the 80 is much more primitive and can tend to wear you out on longer drives. Not sure how long I will keep it at this rate, but so far it's kept the miles off the 100 and wear/tear.

People say the stick shift TDI's can get mid 40's to low 50's. Even the ones from 02-05. Pretty amazing for a non Hybrid. Plus the stick would be a little more fun to drive. My only hesitation with the VW's is their history of repairs. I fear gas savings would go right into repairs. If you where to pick up an 02-05 with 75-95k miles you might be right in time for regular maintenance.

Oh ya, my 100 is my DD....still.

I'll lone you my FJ60, drive it for a couple of months and the 80 will seem like a Rolls to you.:flipoff2:

I still love to drive it though.

I think we need a group buy on a diesel conversion. Problem solved.

My 02 LX was purchased to replace an 01 Lexus LS which replaced an 02 F250 7.2 diesel. The LX gives me the capability the F250 gave me but with a closed interior and a luxurious ride with AHC.

I drive a lot of city miles in south Florida, which gets me about 12-13mpg...close to what I was getting in the F250 but the ride is night and day difference.

For the most part yes, it is my DD. I have been saving it a little by driving another vehicle until I can sell the other vehicle. But after I drive the LC a few days, it is sure hard to get back in the other one! I've put close to 1,000 miles on the LC the past week traveling for work. Sure is nice! My normal daily drive round trip is about 55 miles.

I DD my 100. 40miles round trip-gas sucks but it's a small price to pay when you drive such an awesome vehicle!

We daily drive ours. I'm ok with the fuel cost since ours has long been paid for. Its a catch 22 for me.... If I drive a ton of miles, I want to be safe and comfortable. If I drive low miles, fuel cost is a negligible and no need for a MPG car.

Mine is a DD now, but only because my volvo has some sort of air conditioning issue and it's blazing out outside.

Yep, my Fj40 is my 'play' vehicle.

I have to admit, I love my 100 but the wife's new GX460 is sweeeeeet...

My '05 is my DD, 50 miles rountrip M-F. 170k miles and drives and looks like new. Had it about 3 years.

1000x better than the Sequoias I drove in years past. Great on vacations that require a bit of offroad or deep snow.

I plan to keep this truck for life, even after I get a 200 series as a new DD.

14 mpg is just the price I'm willing to pay.

DD mine. 75 miles round trip. Sometimes I ride my ktm duke, but since my work hours are a bit strange I drive Bruiser the cruiser 95% of the time. Average about 12-14 mpg, but I don't care. The hundy drives fantastic, and most of my past DD's haven't been really practical. I have had lots of cars, but my last cts-v pretty much got the same gas mileage. Haha

I wish it was but I drive a service body F350 with a V10 for work and at 7 mpg it make my LC seem like a Prius with a leather couch for seats.

.

Yeah, the closer I get to knowing the budget will accommodate a 200 series, the more my attitude is, 'F it, gimme the keys to the LC,' and I've begun to embrace the sadistic notion that I want to push the LC to at least 300k. And the sooner the better.

and of course, when the weather is inclement at all, heat, snow, ice, it's the must have vehicle..
