Is your 100 your daily driver?

My hundy is now my DD, I only drive about 30 miles a day round trip. So I guess it doesnt seem that bad gas wise for me. That and my last 5 cars have all required premium. (except the Jetta)

I see Smart cars around here and I just dont understand. When they first came out how were they only rated in the low 30s for mpg for how freaking small they are? I had a 2004 Jetta TDI that got an averaged in the 50s mpg, I actually really miss that car. :( My wife decided to run it into a immovable object.

I really do wish there were more diesel options here in the states for us......for cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Yes, it's only Canada that gets the smart car diesel, as far as I'm aware. Yields about 80MPG on the hwy

even though gas hits us hard in the wallet i still let the :princess: DD our 100 because she likes being higher off the ground and only commutes a couple miles to work. we also use it for all our DD stuff including road tripping because it is the nicest and most comfortable of all our vehicles. as for myself, i try to offset this as much as possible with my 60 miles/day hwy commute and usually take our 01 corolla s - a vehicle which, with my lead foot still manages to average 38-40mpg hwy doing 80+mph. was recently gifted an 03 tacoma 2wd (21 mpg hwy), but that thing gets worse gas mileage than my 93 4x4 (around 24 mpg hwy). if it were up to me, i'd always be commuting on a motorcycle when there's good weather...but right now i don't have one because I got in an accident last Sept. trying to avoid an even bigger accident where i'd be in the middle of a morning commuter pile-up and had to get rid of my beloved SV650n to please the :princess: :crybaby: what she doesn't know is i'm planning on picking up a V-Strom to replace it as soon as spring hits and will again have my 50+mpg and lane-splitting capabilities (cuts off 20 minutes of traffic time).

dunno about you guys, but i've got a Costco 2 miles from my house that sells gas - i know it's not techron gas, but not only is it usually a good $0.25/gallon cheaper than any other gas station, but they also give me 3% back. every penny counts IMO.

Yes, it is my daily driver....

too cold to ride my motorcycle...i draw line at 40*F especially when wet roads and ice are present...have ridden at 29*F but was not fun. At my age have nothing to prove on motorcycle so I prefer the heated seats of my hundred rather than taking 3 hours to warm up after 40 minute ride on highway.

wifes car goes 0-60 in 4.9sec or less....still gets 23-26mpg on trips from DC to Charleston at 80-100 mph...so she is saving gas for both of us.

bought my 100 to drive to work, drive hunting, drive camping, drive wheeling.......if I want to save money I put 87 or 89 octane in her a couple times. Most times I prefer the build quality, capabilities, and functionality of my 100 over any vehicle getting over 36mpg around....but I hear the Corvette C6 models are close...LOL

Yes...daily driver...plus I have found if I dont drive a rig every day or regular basis....I end up with more problems when I start back as all the seals, gaskets, hoses, belts, etc are s*** after sitting and not being driven....plus mice will wreak havoc too. So in long run it is cheaper to drive it in my opinion.

Now if it was a 200-300hp turbo diesel, 5 speed.........in the 100 series I would prefer it over my gas version but until then, I have no regrets.

...The above safety benefits are worth it to me and my family though. We would probably still drive it if it got 5mpg.

Plus the fact that it's a ROCKIN' road trip car! Smoooooth, powerful, quiet, stable, can carry passengers plus cargo, plus you can wheel when you get there!

yeah, I told wife when she is ready for new car...i might take her 335i...add more enhancements to give it more HP....and only drive the LX on Fridays or weekends. :D :D

I love the 100 for DD. It's large, fast (well, heh, you know, slow but fast for it's size), bullet proof, and very well outfitted for daily use. I couldn't think of anything better, other than a helicopter. But that isn't exactly Sear's parking deck friendly.

Mine's a DD. Prob put about 10-12 roundtrip work miles a day on it, very low. And if I get 12mpg (on premium gas), I'm lucky...

I've always had 4x4 trucks, so moving to the SUV for a daily vehicle was a bit of a change, I'll admit.

But now I wouldn't have anything else. Plus, my wife loves it, and is always taking it places. She's in line for a new car in about a year, and a new (to her) LC is exactly what she'll be getting....

I plan on getting a 240sx for the daily drive, hopefully this summer

100 is the wife's DD, but her commute is about five miles each way. She does drive the kids around, but we'd prefer them in that than in my car. I DD a Mercedes CLK55 AMG, but it's not much better than the 100 as far as gas mileage (especially the way I drive). I will probably get rid of it soon and go back to DD'ing the G-Wagen. At least the G-Wagen is a diesel...

It's my DD, but I work from home. Good thing, too, because with the Maggiolina on the top right now (CHEF HAT POWER) I'm getting blown around a lot in the windy weather.

DD- also with ChefHat... 100 is a fuel efficient vehicle compared to the 60 or 55... Luckily gas in Jackson Hole is cheaper at 3.04 for 91. The only thing cheap in this place...

Have you guys seen the smart car crash video, scary!

^^ Agree completely.

Smarts are great for places like London where you only have 3ft to park. Other than that, I say toss 'em in the sea.

My 100 series is my :princess:'s DD. Here commute is a whopping 4 miles thus costing ~$2 round trip in gas.

Same here, but...

100 is a fuel efficient vehicle compared to the 60 or 55...

...oddly enough, I get a little more than 1mpg better in my DD62 than my wife does in the 100. Of course, I get about 3mpg more than her when I drive the 100. Driving styles I suppose.

Oh, am I the only one who only uses regular gas 100% of the time? I know what the manual says...I also think it's bunk. I've noticed absolutely no problems since we bought the 2000 in 2007. No pinging and average mpg is about 15. edit: just saw the other thread where octane is discussed. Seems several owners agree with me.

DD for me also. About 45 miles round trip for work, five days a week. Mileage is the only drawback, but I'll live with it in return for all of the plusses. We have two kids( 4 yrs & 8 mos.) so the safety factor is huge. Plus, the thirty minute commute each way is about all of the "me" time I get these days, so I am happy to pay a little more to enjoy the ride. Did it in a camry for four years and it seemed like more of a chore. I also make the drive home after midnight most nights so the added visibility and security are welcome. I hit work for I one tank a month in return for about forty miles a week running errands, so that softens the blow at the pump.
