Ok, I'm stating to price some things out in anticipation of getting my rig and then getting it fixed up. Since I"m up in Seattle I'm going to take it down to the frame so that I can get all the panels and tub sandblasted....then put monstaliner (or something similar) on the tub (top and bottom) and inside the wheel wells. I called one place and they quoted me $1800-$2500 and another place came in at $1000. I'm going to bring the parts to them....doesn't this seem high? In reading on the site here looks like most have come in between $400-$800. Anyone have recommendations?

For the frame I'm planning to do some sanding then use chassis saver...don't want to go to the expense of blasting the frame and powder coating it...is that a wise move, or should I actually get the frame blasted as well? Really want to protect the rig from the wet conditions up here.

once again, wishing I was back in Austin.

frame sandblast and powderkote. if you dont mind the drive you can take it to vancouver wa and get it done really cheap. maybe around 500 for blasting and powderkoting. i have a friend that has a smaller size oven and can do things bumper size really really cheap any color no extra charge

Thats more what I was hoping to find for price....once I get my rig I'll definitely have to hit you up for the name up in Vancouver and your friend....that would be awesome....might make the drive down worth it.

I will. Unless they raised their prices they did my frame for 350 just for Powerkote and now they have there own sandblasted and they did my cage for 300 including the sandblasting. I have a friend who cant do parts that big but he did all the rest for me

250 is for the rental of a trailered industrial blaster that you can get from a rental facility. I looked at that option as well.

Yeah, that's just the blasting unit. Most industrial blasters have 1/2" chicago fittings that will not work with a normal shop compressor line. One more thing you'll have to remedy before blasting begins. Then you have to purchase bags and bags of media (say about $8-$10 a bag) to accomodate the amount needed to blast the body and frame. Coal slag isn't as reuseable as silica sand. You can use sand on the frame and on the belly of the tub. I'd even use it on the inside of the tub, but I would buy coal slag or similar product (Black Beauty, Stardust, Black Diamond all which are a form of coal slag) to avoid peening the hell out of the outer shell. Truthfully, if it was me I would chemically strip the outer tub my self with Aircraft stripper. You also have to have at least two water seperators in-line to avoid getting the media moist. Believe me, you will create moisture blasting anything for even a short amount of time.

SO............you rented the blaster for $250, have an adequate air supply with enough H/P and CFM to properly blast the frame, body and all associated parts, AND purchased enough media to get the job done. I'd say you are at $400+ and are in for a messy day or weekend depending on your air source. I'd source out another blaster who will charge you $600 and call it a day. They are out there. You just have to do some research.

I have a really nice Marco blaster and a 5HP IR 80 gallon shop compressor, but I would still pay my guy the money to have him blast the tub. I have done frames in the past, but an entire tub is just too much time and a huge mess considering the space at my dad's bodyshop. I just called him the other day and he is going to charge me $600 for the tub/fenders/grille/bibaprons. I don't have doors or a hardtop, but that will be around $250 when I can find them.

i just had a bunch of parts done here, the bill was $900 but that was just half the truck and not the frame.
labor costs, if you can rent a unit then you might save a few bucks.

i have considered buying a portable industrial unit but $15K is a large out lay of coin but then i have paid out about $8K in sand blasting alone since i moved down here.

plus the PC and we are easily looking at over $20K.

as for SB and PC the frame, IF you get a good shop to do the work then it is worth it. a s***ty PC job or mediocure SB job and you are just wasting your money.
but
if done right and it can add decades to your frames life. remember, your frame is the foundation of your build.

I agree with crushers comment on the frame being your foundation. you don't want to come up short on a quality job here. I would pay a pro or put your best foot forward here don't waste time half a$$ doing it.

Major Nelson,

Did you by chance call these guys for a quote? I called them a while back and if I recall correctly, they gave me a range of $800 - $1200. I believe this price was for the big parts (tub, hood, doors, sides of the hard top). They charge by the hour, so if you could hit the easy areas with an stripper disk, you could save yourself some money.

This shop was recommended to me by Torfab (real good guy).
