My FJ62 has the blower in it. My FJ60 friend says it's to cool the carb.

Why do FJ62's have this blower? Is it necessary? Can it be taken out or is it better to let things be as they are?

Running a header reduces the need for the fan. With the stock setup, exhaust bolted directly to the intake, vapor locking was a real concern, (more with carbs than with FI) hence the fan. Get rid of the heat, get rid of the fan.

If you don't need the space taken up by the fan, I would leave it in place. Even in the Northwest where I live it does kick on in the summer. Small or not it does move a lot of air
