Is it hardcore to build your own fuel injection??? (1 Viewer)

Jason,

I have a hard time believing that an EFI would not be cleaner than a carb...

I'd check another source.

I thought mine was past the emissions testing in DFW - which is more strict than CA - so I pulled the CAT and had Butch redo the exhaust. I screwed up by one year and had to do another sniffer test - with no CAT it passed by a mile - I mean it was VERY clean.

Do you think that if you had a big air filter on your rig that the guy at the test station would figure out that you had changed to a TBI? My experience is that when I pull the 40 in they aren't sure what to do - and I can tell them just about anything I want.

Unfortunately emission testing has very little to do with common sense or clean air, it's mostly about political BS, $$$ and getting older cars off the road.

Has nothin to do with how clean it burns..

The f'n smog bozos have a list of everything it is required to have federally, smog pump, air injection, etc..

If I dump any of it I am probably hosed. I might get away with it once or twice but if I hit the wrong smog place I am branded for life..

Looks like a warmed up 5.0 out of a cop mustang will make it's way into the little beastie one day ;)

I hope it works out for ya...

but if you feel like unloading your Megasquirt stuff, let me know. ;)

Isn't there a year model that you're grandfathered in after? In GA its 25 yr, so almost any 60 is within a few years of exemption here.

"grandfathered" in never really took root here.

Only 2 counties in Nevada require smog. And they are a bitch cause of california assholes..

Sorry about that. Sounds like they are a lot tougher down south. Up here tha only thing they check is the restrictor on the fuel filler. I pulled all the smog stuff off my 40 years ago.

So waht are you planning to do with your TBI set-up?

The 40 is not an issue. It is an 81 and newer thing

Don't know yet.
I will probably sell the parts to put a stock smog system back together and then funnel some of the money into the 302/c6/203/split tcase idea...

This could be for the best, last night the BBCN prez was telling me how much more he likes driving his 60 with a TBI V8.

Looks like this thing is gaining steam..

Anyone want a 2F, 2f smog stuff, chevy TBI and computer, TBI adapter plate, HEI dist with a Lc gear on it already, 85 4 speed tranny and some other parts???

:D

Send me a PM on the fuel-injection related stuff.

I know I will be going this direction in the future, might as well do it sooner, if the price is right. :D

I think you still outta do it. You're so close!

If not, then send me a pm with the info, as I'd like to put fuel-injection on my 2F '75 Pig.

Being close to something that is not legal is not always the best idea ;)

if it was older than 1980 I would be alright. But since it is an 85 I am screwed...

You guys interested in the Gm computer or the Megasquirt stuff?

I have managed to maintain all of my smog equipment when I did my TBI setup. I still have my air pump, EGR, cat, and stock air cleaner. I will find out if my MS-TBI setup passes smog in January, otherwise, I have a lot of work to do on reinstalling the carb.

That is the headache that I don't want to deal with...

Soooooo, I am putting in a warmed up 88 cop mustang 5.0/c6/203/split tcase.. Whee.....

Hows that for an abrupt change lol
