HI, im new to IH8MUD so its my first thread, im 17 years old and my dad bought an 1983 fj60 that looks like krap, he regretd buying it so he gave it 2 me, since then ive been fooling around with it until one summer without gas i decided to "tune up" my toy by removing all kinds of stuff including most of vacuums, a/c, just to make it "lightweight" (i know i was an idiothahaha), when i got gas i turned it on it was over reving and was making too much noise, and now im trying to put everything cuz i really liked how this toy ran, but damn these 2F engines look like spaghetti too much vacuum lines and im wondering what u think i should put back in order for it to run without problems, BTW i live in a HOT place avg=110 degrees! and its all desert sands here so anyone recommend anything!????? thanks for reading:D.

use the search function grasshopper, on d-smog

Every vacuum hose is necessary if you live in an area where you have smog police. Otherwise, you can do a desmog. This involves removing some hoses, rerouting some, making some changes to the carb, dizzy, etc. There are posts on here about proper desmog procedures.

If you live where it's hot, then you want to make sure your cooling system is in top shape. Good rad, thermostat, fan clutch, etc. Also lots of posts about cooling systems.

The only problem about the desmog posts is that they are so hard to understand!

anything that I can recommend would be to go back to school, and learn how to SPELL! :p

why take the a/c out if you live where it's 110 degrees?

there are a lot of threads on desmoging, and many happy people with them.

If you weigh all the stuff you take off it will come to less that 90lbs. This will not make your rig noticeable lighter and you fuel economy will not improve.

You can generally wash a Landcruiser and get 90lbs of mud and crud out of it.

wash the rig, take the crap out of the back, but dont randomly pull stuf of the engine in a effort to make it lighter. cheers bro and it will be cool, just do some reading on what you did an go forth . no worries.

cheers

So you took a good running truck and made it non-functional. Yep, all those vacuum hoses were the problem!:flipoff2:

Seriously, FInd another FJ60 and park it next to yours with the hood up. Then go through and re-attach every single vacuum hose in the right place, using the good truck as a model.

After you get it running well again, read up on desmogging, why teenage desmogging is a bad idea, and then armed with a brainful of knowledge and $1000, go through the desmog process again IF it's legal where you live.

You will not get more power or better fuel economy. You will get a more logical engine compartment, but that's about it.

Oh to be 17 & have your dad GIVE you a 60!

Get the FSM & a couple spools of vacuum hose & get to work. These beasts run fine if in original configuration. You'll have a blast with it in the desert & the cost of gas isn't so bad when you figure you'd spend more per hour at the movies.

You'll only get smarter if you try. And your spelling isn't as bad as your typing (texting?) - I was impressed with "spaghetti" & "vacuum". 3_puppies is just jealous.

Haha, "Teenage Desmogging"
That should be in the Websters dictionary!:hillbilly:

Sorry to do this................ but I laughed and wanted to bring this thread back!
"teenage desmogging" I love it!!

$1000 to desmog? How do you figure??

$100-$200 for idler pulley (Jim C. or SOR); $300 plus shipping for Jim C. Desmog Carb Rebuild; $100 plus shipping for Jim C. Distributor re curve and rebuild, say $30 bucks to get a welder to close up Exhaust Manifold and Intake Manifold, $5 to plug up exhaust pipe or get it welded, <$5 bucks to get plugs to go into head where air rail was; $35 bucks for new McMaster Carr tubing. Thousand bucks may be an overestimate. But $600+ is not unrealistic unless you have all the toys and know how to use them. Oops! Forgot the FSM, don't try this at home without it!

Great question. When I picked up my 60 in AZ, it was desmogged altogether.

Before I drove her home to MA, I had Bill's Toys in Tucson hook all that crap back up.

I've been passing with flying colors ever since.
