so what about ironman vs f.o.r? So it sound like you can just buy the cheapest springs you can find on sale and get a great pair of shocks and be good to go?

Great write up. I've seen the Ironman on the Venny Funrace trucks and it performs for them.

Great write up, thanks for taking the time to do the comparison, you can just feel the jealously from all of us re you having two sweet rigs !!!, good for you

How much gear were you carrying? I have spoken with Eli and also experienced Woody's 80 for a good long trip. My concern is picking the correct springs for the amount of crap I carry on a daily basis vs the extra crap I carry when on a wheeling trip. I don't want to buy springs twice. Thanks for the input.

My 97 80 remains stock except for Lt285's. ARB bumper and winch soon to go on. The arse is dragging already!

I have the same I.M. set-up as russelle on my rig with the exception of lighter duty front springs (24B 110#) and no Slee Sway drop brackets. The 13B rear springs are rated for 660# and this works out great with my Hanna rear bumper W/ tire swing, half cargo box & 10# CO2 bottle. And I sit pretty close to level and the suspension feels great.

Truthfully, I made a MAJOR oversight trying to get out of the LA basin Thursday at 5:30pm because I knew traffic was going to suck and forgot to grab my tools/recovery gear. I mean I left everything that I had stacked up in my storage locker sitting right there; not even a screwdriver or duct tape accompanied us on the trip. Thankfully, both of these trucks have been baselined and exemplify reliability and quality.

So for gear the Biege (Ironman equipped) FZJ80 it had 15 gallons of extra gas, about 100 lbs of eucalyptus wood, camp stove, grill camp chairs, 3 sleeping bags, clothes for 4 nights (1 extra) and camp dish kit. I'd say 350 lbs total.

For the White (OME equipped) FZJ80 it had two loaded coolers w/ food and beverage, my friends clothes, 5 gallons of water, extra tents, and the dry food. I'd say 300 lbs total.

Any idea where they Ironman shocks are made, or who makes them? There should be a "Made in ****" stamp on the base of them.

Thank you

I think that rear would work fine. The front might need more for the ARB and winch.

Bluetribal, are those LT285's on yours?

I looked at both ends of the Ironman shocks and didn't see a "made in ...." stamped anywhere. Maybe Eli from Camel 4X4 can chime in?

Russelle, how would an OME 2 1/2" medium lift kit with Nitro shocks pair up in your opinion?

OK,

Now go back and do the test again, this time add the IronMan Foam Cell Shocks.

You might need a third truck.
