Did some rear diff armor today and also put together one of the rock rings. Both look good.
Thanks to Death Grip Offroad for cutting this stuff out for me.
The color is "fiesta" red and a heck of a lot brighter in a photo than to the eyes.

I've started on some of the smaller things like emblems and such. The PO took the time to tape everything off when he painted the 40, but what boggles me is how easy it is to remove all the badging on these vs taping things off. Why would anyone go through the hassle of just taping things? What a waste of time. I'm also going around welding all the little holes that previous owners made installing things over the past 45 years (gun racks, fishing racks, and whatever else).

Installed the GM 12 bolt mini spool. Pretty straight forward install with the only pain being the removal of metal for fit. Not having a lathe makes taking metal off with an emery cloth a pain.

Was thinking that same thing today but unable to post pictures it seems? Maybe I need a few more posts... should be up to 10 now.

It seems to have been one of those s***ty build days. I went to install my new RCV axles and realized fairly quickly (not fast enough though) that I was mistakenly shipped FJ40 rather than FJ60 axles. New long side is on the way so no big deal really.
Last evening I was putting the knuckles together and had a nightmare time getting proper preload on the six shooter knuckles.
This morning I killed three outer axle seals trying to get them seated, thankfully I had spares, but still don't have one in the hub. I've never had this much trouble getting a seal to seat. I may suck it up and just buy an axle seal kit.
As soon as I get the new long side axle in I should have the front axle buttoned up. I've been going back and forth between mechanical stuff and putting metal together for armor. I should also be into the cage in the next day or so, but need to cut out some mounts and drill everything before I start bending tube.
I just realized this has been one hell of a rambling mess but I'm posting it anyway.

Spent the past few days working on the cage and got a great start. I have to pick up another stick of tube to finish everything up (100' of tube total), but I like how it's turning out. I'll get some pics up when it's complete.

That's a fine machine.
Great find and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

Pic as promised. Plans are to sometime this week (depending on rain) get the cage out; grind, wheel, and paint. While it's out I'll also be painting the interior and monstalining the floor up to the sills.
