Phil, what have you done with the cats? You have the exhaust under frame of the 95-97, but I’m not seeing the low hanging fruit on the passenger side.

Exhaust is 3" with cat by Safari a it was part of the turbo kit.

Can't imagine there would be much demand for a 20 year old turbo setup with a new and better setup that is emissions certified coming out. But some people just like walking through antique shops. lol.

You would be very surprised. It hard to dispute still going very strong after 160K and 21 years. IIRC it was you that said it used a very good turbo. I cant understand why you would hate on it. I offered it without the turbo but the new owner with years of turbo experience said that is what drove the deal.;)

Personally I would be very scared putting something on my 80 with some history. IIRC you cannot buy new in the crate 1FZJ anymore.

Yeah it is a pretty good turbo since it is a rebranded Garrett with a custom exhaust housing and it was before turbo companies started using cheap Chinese turbos. But it is old and a lot of technological advancement has happened in the last 20 years, with regard to seals, bearings and blade geometry.

I think the stock OEM radio was probably pretty good 20 years ago, the OEM tires were probably pretty good 20 years ago, etc But if given the opportunity to use either of them vs a new radio or new KM2/KM3 I wouldn't choose something old just because it has history.

I hope it continues to work without any issues for a very long time. And like I told you if and when that custom exhaust housing cracks again it is going to be tough to fix or replace.

It is an awesome turnkey setup that is for sure! and I hope it didn't come off as hate just saying Safari is a little long in the tooth compared to modern setups.

The Garrett GT35R is old technology?

Safari address everything all the way out to the 3" exhaust tail pipe. The new kit I assume you speak of does not address 1/2 of what the old technology does. I have had several people reach out wanting details and pictures on how they were able to route the inner cooler lines and make room for the inner cooler. I know you are of the mind set they do not need an inner cooler but others in AZ have tried running turbos without inner cooler on there 80 series and could not keep them cool without along with melting a bunch of stuff under the hood. You call it old technology but its performance is smooth, super strong, and it has no issues. With that I take old technology as they have history of reliability with strong performance. A couple guys with SC with all the add on's have driven it and everyone says hands down its the fastest smoothest 80 they have ever driven.

I am not of the mindset that an intercooler isn't necessary. I have one.

And yes GT35 from 20 years ago is old tech, it bears little resemblance to today's GTX35.

And Yep won't disagree that a turbo is better than a TRD SC'r, I think it is old technology too.

Lets agree to table this until there is something new running with some history because as of today Safari is the best turbo system available today...if you can find one.;)

Note: The housing did crack after 20 years:meh: but it was replaced with SS by Air Tech, no worries going forward.
