It's about time!

Hi, I finally joined PMC a couple months ago (at least the check cleared)
I'm the lucky sob that won the complete soft top at the Rubithon raffle. Pretty nice take. It's already ordered and looks like it would have cost me about $1000 after shipping. Very nice of STC to donate I think. This was my 1st Rubithon but I've been driving the Con since 1990 in much smaller groups. (5-25 rigs) My wole family had a blast and will be back next year, I think Tony does a hell of a job putting this together. And I have to say I had a blast at the Mauraders Bar Fri. nite.
I bought my '81 FJ40 brand new off the lot while I was still single. After getting married and starting a family we decided we needed to get a bigger car. I loved my old cruiser so much I figured the 60 would be a perfect family car(truck) that would last at least until the kids started driving. In 1989, with a 2 year old and the wife 5 months pregnant we found a 1987 FJ60 in the local paper and bought it. It had 18,000 miles on it and is now showing 194,000. Still driven daily.
My 15 yr old son wanted to drive my '81 when he started driving and I just couldn't stand that thought. I suggested we look for a 40 to fix up for him to drive to school and also something we could take on the Rubicon as (needless to say) we were outgrowing the one rig.I had no more room for racks. (I think I could give Woody a run for his money haulin' gear)
I found a stock 2/75 that was rust free but needed ALOT of tlc. From my experience I knew we needed P/S and disc brakes before he could even drive it to school so that was the first project to tackle. Danny Warden had done most of my mechanical work on the '81 and I knew I couldn't afford that so I would do this myself. Between LCML and
ebay I got the rig together in about 8 months. '81 discs, mini truck P/S, "Ruststop Continental Blue" rattle can paint job and replaced all sorts of stuff that was missing including bezel, wiring harness, emblems and lights, and over half the bolts throughout the truck. Had the truck finished for Christmas 2002.
Within 4 months my son had run it out of oil :whoops:and it was time to replace the 2F with one I had picked up a few months earlier because I wanted the fan off of it. Of course with the motor out we might as well...put in an Orion, lockers, 4" lift, 4.56's with
35's. The kids now take it through the Con like it was built for it. I do plan on going from a mini ps to full saginaw in the next couple months.
I think that's enough for now. I'm looking forward to meeting more PMC members at the swap meet next week and maybe even trying to make it to a meeting some day.

, Don
p.s. I'll post some pics when I figure this out
