My name is Brian and my wife is Pam. We're not natives but have lived in the Phoenix area most of our lives. We've owned a fj60 for about 5 years. It is an ideal camping vehicle. We bought a 74 fj40 recently. I am in the process of putting the hardtop together. As purchased, it is completely disassembled. If there is someone in the Northwest valley who wouldn't mind me looking at a fully assembled hardtop on their fj40, please reply. I need to figure out what's missing and how everything goes together. Also, am looking for a body shop that has experience with fj40's.

Welcome to all the locals and soon to be locals. Get yer stuff together and come on out to the AZRocks event on the 17th and 18th of March. There's plenty of trails for all levels of experience.

[standing]Hi, my name is Ben and I'm a wheelaholic. I regularly abuse perfectly good vehicles, and can't let a weekend go by without some type of excursion. Thank you. [/standing]

Hey Brian Welcome I have a fully assembled FJ40 hardtop in the NE valley if you want to take a drive.

Hola Tred!

Thanks! I drive a 3RZ 4WD Tacoma. It's pretty much stock. I want to supercharge it, or even better, turbocharge it, but I've got too many hobbies for a rather unstable job. Living at 7000 feet certainly doesn't help.... (My truck at 7000 feet = Neon at sea level.)

Yes, I hope to make some wheeling friends!

Hey guys, I'll finally introduce myself now that I've bought a truck. After months of looking for a suitable cruiser and recently deciding that we should trade in one of our DDs for whatever we get, we decided on a 4Runner. I was hoping to find a 100 with miles between 50k and 70k, but just couldn't afford the price tag.

So Tuesday night I surprised the wife and brought home the new '06 SR5 4Runner, V6 with 4WD of course.

Even though its brand spanking new I'm chomping at the bit to take it out wheeling. And hopefully since I at least bought Toyota you guys wouldn't mind a light-weight tagging along on some of the runs.

I'd like to try something moderate, but something with some room, not ready for the desert pinstripe yet (I once did the trail from Sunflower to Punkin Center in another truck...ouch, that left a mark).

We're working on camping trip to Apache Lake next month, anyone know of any good trails up there?

I haven't given up on Cruisers though, in a year or two, I'd like to start building up a 62.

Later

David

'06 4Runner SR5 - will roll it over 100 today...

Welcome David! That is a fine rig they wheel great out of the box - I had a chance to drive an 05 with ARB products installed - super capable and very comfortable

See you out there

Welcome and congrats....very nice rig

Hola David and welcome! Of course your rig is welcome, we are a Toyota 4x4 Club. I look forward to seeing you out and about.

Hi,

My name is Jimmy. I have been trying to restore and fixup a 73' fj40. I live in tucson and plan to attend the cruise in this friday night. I am having some trouble with my freeze plugs near the cam shaft that are causing a leak that i would love to fix permanatly. any help figuring it out would be great! I am also looking to switch out my 3 speed tranny for a 4 speed and would like to know what one to get that bolts up to the 3 speed bell housing? h41? i have seen them on cruiserparts.net for $450. also when doing a spring over are longer shocks needed, and do i need to do any modifications to the steering? Whew! good to be here!

I can't help on the tranny questions but on your spring over questions, Yes, yes and other things need attention too.

Do a search for SOA on the FJ40 tech section here at Mud. Oodles of info out there.

Welcome

wellcome, Jimmy

Hola rockygreen11!
Sounds like you are going to be a busy soul, but it will be sweet when it is done. I can't wait until I'm done with the 62 and I can start looking for a 40 to build up. She is close, very close.

I saw you were talking about the Tucson cruise in. Not sure if those happen anymore, but here is a good place to start first to see https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=53252 . You might also PM Maddbaggins as he is the angry hobitt that runs the Tucson Chapter for more info.

Welcome and we hope to see you out and about in the future!
