Welcome Joe!!

Hi, I'm Rocky (a.k.a. Chuck) - living on the east side of Tucson.

I've got a '74 FJ-40. I don't get out with it as much as I should, but that needs to change!

Anyway - just wanted to introduce myself. It is good to see some of the same avatars here as in the regular Mud pages.

Rocky

What up, Chuck!
I'm out on the east side also, Camino Seco/Wrightstown area.

I hope I bump into you some time. I am at 22nd and Houghton. I'll keep an eye out for your rig! It looks good, BTW.

Chuck

Hey all, I've been lurking around Mud for a couple weeks now and thought i would introduce myself,

Name's TJ, live in Prescott, currently going to school there. I don't currently own a Cruiser but my dad had a FJ 25 for a long time (ie before I was born), currently looking for either a 60 or FZJ80. Been wheeling since i was born pretty much but mostly in Isuzu's(not going to hold that against me will you guys?:D). Currently own a 1980 Isuzu KB 4x4 (Chevy Luv) which is my DD, I also have a 1988 Isuzu Trooper that is sitting at home without an engine or tranny(still need to rebuild the engine and get it back into the truck) Most of my 4x4 adventures have been in Southern Utah, and Southwestern Colorado. I've also been all over the Northeastern tip of AZ (ie the Navajo rez, hince the screen name:D) grew up there so I pretty much know the area like the back of my hand...maybe better:rolleyes:, nice to find a forum for AZ-cruiser heads, looking forward to meeting/wheelin with yall

Welcome! Watch for trail run announcements - we've had people bring broncos, dodge p/u's and even Jeeps!

If you're down in Phx on the third Friday of any month, we meet in the parking lot next to the Sonic just east of rural Road on Broadway about sundown.

Welcome Rez!!

Welcome kid! Isuzu's are cool with me. I read somewhere that a lot of those Troopers came with a Dana 44 rear. Not bad.

Hey RezKid you don't have any picture's of your dad's old FJ25. Just wondering if it's one of the three I bought here in the state. Two of then show on the titles as having been registered in the state when they where new. I know of five still in the state maybe your dad's old 25 is still around.

John

Howdy y'all,

I had a red 76 FJ40 softtop, many miles and 18 years ago. That was one of the few vehicles I've owned other than a 64 Corvair Rampside PU that were any fun to drive and work on. Well, come to think of it the Corvair was only fun to drive. After another summer of frustration with my 88 Chevy PU 4x4, 95 Suburban, and 01 Old's mini van and an advancing case of middle age crazy, I've decided I need to buy something fun and simple to work on again. Also, I want to make sure my kids learn how to work a stick shift and take the road/trail less traveled. Yesterday I stumbled into this forum looking for cuisers for sale and I'm checking into one now. Jeez, wasted all summer on google, ebay and auto trader.

Have a good one,
Scott

Newbie

Hi
My name is Marco, owner of an 88 bj74.
Live out where it gets cold...Sudbury Ontario
Work for Inco...we might change names shortly...will keep you posted
I'm a diesel mechanic and have been told I'm a perfectionist...not always a good thing I hear...
Happy cruising:)

Hey thanks for the welcome, unfortunatly Troopers never came with the D44 rear, only the Rodeo's and later Amigo's(but the Troopers did come with a Isuzu 12bolt axle which is stronger than a D44 so it's all good:D)

Livinginthepast, nope I don't have any pics of my dad's 25 but I highly doubt it's one of the ones you have, his was bought and sold in CA, it was in AZ for a few years while my dad was at NAU in the 70's

Introduction

Hi! I am Swowie with a new to me '92 FJ80. I am totally hooked on my Toyota after my first trip into the wild north of Payson 3 weeks ago! I am now converting my rig to E lockers and disk brakes with 96 axels. I have an OME 2.5 lift with .4 spacers and am switching to 315/75R-16 All terrain BFG's after the axel swap. I am also switching to 4.88 ratio. See I have it bad. :)

I live in NE PHX with a Scottsdale mailing address.

I'm The Fu Mann

FuMann is my old college nickname. Arizona DMV rejected my personalized license request for FUMANN because they thought I was secretly saying :flipoff2: Man. I've always been misunderstood.

About me, I'm on my 3rd FJ40, though it has been about 27 years between em. Funny how it almost correlates directly to the number of years I was married to The :princess:. Hmmm? Well, that problem is almost solved, and I ain't getting any younger. I am getting divorced :) after 26 years. Hell, I may just become a two Cruiser family to make up for lost time, who knows?

I've been working on the latest 77 FJ40 for about 3 years now. I've restored it in the image of my previous Cruiser, which was a brand new mustard 74, with a chrome bezel. The family bought it new at Scott Toyota. At 18K miles, I did an AA conversion using a custom built SBC 350 cu, with 10.5 to 1 compression, a Crane RV cam, chrome headers, Lakewood scattershield, Weiand high rise manifold, Carter 4BBL and a baffled large capacity oil pan. Keep in mind I did this with a couple of buddies. The year was 1976. It all happened about 3 miles from the Sonic where we meet. I loved that Cruiser!!! But I had to sell it to pay for college.

So my 77 should have never been restored. When The :princess: and had our first separation (about 3 years ago), I had a moment of weakness and decided to become a one man FJ40 Rescue Society and I bought (and paid too much for) this rusted out, bondo'd up POS, blue FJ40 from some kid in Mesa who had picked it up in Utah and never titled it. In fact, he lost the title. Dip****! I had to contact the guy in Utah to get a duplicate title and create paperwork that showed I bought the vehicle directly from him. The smog equipment was gone, too. That's another story.

I stripped the entire body down to bare metal only to find that there were numerous places where you could stick a finger right through the metal. I replaced quarter panels, fenders, fender aprons, rear sill, running boards and door bottoms. I also replaced battery carrier, windshield, window and door rubber. Repaired numerous holes in the tub. I removed the dash pad and dash support, and the knee rubber on the dash. There was a nasty looking hole in the dash, where someone had used a crow bar to mount a stereo. Its flat metal now, so currently there is no radio in it. I usually just wear my Bose NC headphones when I drive. I'll be mounting a stereo in a Tuffy console at some point. I replaced all the turn signals and lights, door panels, and door hardware. The heater, skid plate and lots of smaller pieces were powder coated at AZ Powdercoat on Washington. Powdercoat is a lot cheaper than people think, and it is 5 times harder than regular paint. I had it painted by Chuck and John at Arizona Street Scene. They specialize in muscle cars and street rods, primarily for the auctions in Scottsdale in January.

Mechanically, this Cruiser still has a ways to go. It is a tired old pig with something around 200K miles on the 2F. At the moment, the ampmeter doesn't work, nor does the speedometer. The V8 will come after the divorce. I'm also planning Power steering, AC, a Shackle Reversal, U-bolt flip with 4" rear and 2.5" front lifts. Unfortunately, it could be a while, as we have a house to sell before any of that can happen.

I've got BFG AT 33x12.50x15's on aluminum rims. I originally ordered black steel spokes, but when they showed up, the offset was wrong. So I had to find something different. Black spokes were not in in the 70's, white and chrome were the styles.

Here are a few pictures: Before, During and Now.

Happy Trails,

Trent

P.S. Yeah, I wheel in it.:flipoff2:

Possibly moving to Scottsdale/Phoenix

Assuming I get the job I applied for. I have no clue as to the area and was hoping to get some info on apartment rent (1 bedroom) preferably with enclosed parking. I need info on areas to look at/areas to avoid.

The job is at the 8900 block of E. Raintree Dr. in Scottsdale.

Also any info on transferring Ca. registration on my cruiser/My License (I assume I just give up the Ca license & get an Az version?) to Az. would be good too.
Thanks in advance.

Moving to AZ

Here is a Great Link for AZ new comers covering title transfer and DL:

Hope to see you around as your new job location is near me.

Appartments depends on what you want. Some in the area but more expensive, cheeper in other areas, young crowd vs established etc....

Good luck on the job.
