Hello! Thought I'd introduce myself since I've been posting and lurking for two to three months. My name is Gary. I'm originally from the Benson area, then went to college at UA, then defected and graduated from ASU. I've lived in the Vally of the Sun for the last ten or so years where I owned a high end audio / visual company. Well, I always wanted to return to Tucson and about six months ago did it! We are on the NE side of town right now while we are having a home built in Vail. I'm so glad to be back in the Tucson area. It's home to us.

I've been into off-roading for a long time. I have a Suzuki samurai that was basically a Toyota. It has a 22R, toy axles, marlin crawler, toy tranny, toy axles, ARB in the rear, 35" MT crawlers, etc, etc. I got to the point in my rockcrawling that I needed to go full tube. I chopped it in half and stripped it down to get it ready to go full tube with a four link suspension. Well, that's still how it sits. I realized I was kind of burned out on the more extreme rock crawling stuff and really wanted something I could take the family in and do more exploring and such.

My wife has always liked FJ40's and I started to read as much as I could about them and the more I read, the more I like them! I bought a 79 FJ40 out of Cali and immediately started to fix problems and doing some upgrades.

I think I bought it about three months ago. Since then I've dropped the drivetrain and rebuilt a t-case for it. I'm waiting for a low mileage tranny from back east. I've installed a MAF family roll cage, installed a crate 350, put in bucket seats out of a 2001 Neon, and a bunch of other odds and ends. I already have a love/hate relationship with this thing! I can't wait to get the trans so I can put this thing back together and get it on the road!

Anyway, probably way too much info. I'm hooked on FJ's and am looking forward to getting to meet you all.

I appreciate it! Likewise, let me know if you need anything. I'm at Limberlost / Melpomene area until our house is finished.

I'll definately try and make it to the get together. If I every get my tranny from a guy back east I might even be able to drive the 40! :D

Hello

Hello I am Miguel and I recently purchased a 2007 FJ Cruiser in Voodo Blue. It is the manual 4x4 with the roof rack, rock rails and the front skid plate. I am fairly new to offroading and look forward to learning as much as possible. Let me know if any of you has made any lift modifications to an FJC since that with new tires is probably the first mod I will do. I look forward to meeting all of you.

Regards,

Miguel

Welcome Miguel! I look forward to seeing some FJCs in action on the trail meets. Where in AZ are you located?

Welcome dude!!
Yup, every 3rd friday in the PHX area, you just missed the last one. We also have a more informal gathering every 2nd friday in Tucson.

How do like your FJ?

New to the Forum / Copper State Cruisers

Hello everybody, My name is Josh and I am new to the Forum, but not new to the cruiser community. I am a transplant from Alaska where the culture is going strong! Thanks to all that I met last Friday night who made me and my son feel welcome at the Sonic meet. I have been in AZ for 5 years, and have not joined a group, or club. Unfortunataly, I have been forced to find trails the hard way, trial and error, and am looking forward to meeting some people with similiar interests, and local knowledge. I am currenlty in the process of completely rebuilding my 76 FJ40, (Thanks To Tim Hill in Tuscon for a new body recently) so all that is left now is the disc brake conversion, and some wiring; however I am able to still get out on the trails in the meantime using my 4runner.
I will be trying to attend the FJ Cruiser run on the 10th, and look forward to meeting more members of this group!
Here is a couple of pics of my two rigs.

Welcome! I like stopping in to see Tim and buy stuff - I'm heading up to AK in a week or so for about 8 weeks of fun - see you out in AZ sometime

Tim has more knowledge of the 40-60 series(s) than anyone I have ever met, and is the only place to find new trannies, and axles, and hard to find small parts. He sounds like he wants to retire from the cruiser parts game here shortly, so I need to load a trailer up soon!

Welcome Josh!

I missed the last meet because I was in Mexico for my tequila therapy, but I look forward to seeing you at the next meet.

Don't believe him. He doesn't really own a Cruiser. And if he did he wouldn't wheel it anyway.

Oh yeah...WELCOME!

Old cruiser dude

Folks,
I hardly know any other cruiser people here in Southern AZ other than those I meet in Avra Valley at Tim Hill's place. Anyway, I've been working on this beast on and off for 20 years. If the next meeting is June 9th, I'll be there.
