Don't know if this is old news or if it's already been posted (search and came up empty).

I am looking at doing my first mini-expo style trip and was over at the Expedition Portal website for some ideas and saw this article:

Not that we don't already know that we drive awesome vehicles, but it was interesting to me to see the 100 as the top pick for an expo rig (would have expected to see a 80 or a Disco, since that's what's reported most of the time).

I've seen this before and was surprised the 80 was not number 1, and even more surprised the Jeep was number 3 ahead of the 80. I now own both a 100 series and Jeep Rubicon Unlimited (wife's DD). I've also owned an 80 with fr/re diff locks. The 80 was by far the most universal vehicle for trail, trips, and daily use IMHO (never really did any EXPO driving, though).

Sorry, let me clarify....Expedition. The article was written about overland expedition vehicles. I was thumb pecking on my phone when responding to the thread previously, and yes, was being lazy by trying to abbreviate "expedition". Obviously, in the long run, I would be time ahead by just typing "Expedition" originally as If I had, I would not feel the obligation to explain.

Won't make that mistake again.

The article is entertaining and ridiculous, regardless of what vehicle is at the top. It became the most viewed and discussed article in that site's history. One of the other top viewed articles tells us not to buy a CB. While I agree that HAM is far superior and think everyone should use it, I feel that CB was one of the best upgrades I have done to the truck.

I Agree that the 80 would be a much better "Expo" rig. Better yet a 60/62/70. The fewer electronics the better for true Expo / Overland travel. Something most of us will never do. For camping and off-roading (remember those words?) and just driving around the States in a balance of comfort and capability the 100 can't be beat.

And it makes no mention of the benefit of Plasti-Dip so it automatically becomes null and void. :flipoff2:

I dunno, I'm a big fan of the 80 (just bought another) but give the recent 'expeditions' I've been on, I'd take a V8 powered 100 before a FZJ80, both of which I would take before a 60/62. Circling the world involves a lot of roads, climbs and hills, none of which make the 60/62/80 extremely comfortable :D Best of breed would be the turbo-diesel powered varieties, particularly the VDJ. Having spent days alternating between the turbo'ed 1HZ powered 79 and the turbo'ed VDJ 78's, one makes you work it down the road, the other makes you kick back and enjoy :D
