I have come across a 1981 BJ42 (3B, 5 speed) for sale in B.C. Canada. It seems to be a solid vehicle but I am working to get better photos. The kicker is, I live in FL and do not have a passport/NEXUS card. f the photos look promising enough, I would be interested in paying someone to inspect the vehicle and work to coordinate shipping if everything checks out. The vehicle is located in Shirley, BC.

Does anyone have any experience coordinating this type of transaction or have suggestions regarding a person or shop who might be willing to inspect it for me? I'm also curious what a fair fee for this type of job would be. Thanks!

Looks like a lot of rust. Fenders don't look stock either. If you plan to restore it, plan on spending a lot.

I get up to Vancouver Island quite a bit. Cars up there rust!

Closer and cleaner. Stock air box, shackles, etc... Has a soft top too, and much closer to you.

The tub is pre-79. Rear shock mounts are not original.

Has aftermarket shocks and springs. Pre 79 tub is a helpful observation. Should that weigh heavily on my decision?

Here is the description:
1981 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ 42 1985 3B Duesek ( 5 Bearing ) high nickle head AXT turbo 2.5" exhaust autometer pyro & boost gauges 5 speed rebuilt t-case with 4 speed gears ( lower than the 5 speed gears ) 4.1 gears in diffs 2.5 " old man emu lift springs brand new tires less than 4 months greasable anti inversion shackles and pins rancho 5000 shocks metaltech front cage kit added to a pair of stock roll bars to make full cage ramsey re8000 winch custom fiberglass fenders 70 series tun signals two new batteries

Closer and cleaner. Stock air box, shackles, etc... Has a soft top too, and much closer to you.

Price difference will likely be over $6,000 usd. Thoughts?
I received a shipping quote from BC to FL for ~$2500. All in this one would hopefully be under $15k to my door. Overpriced?

I wouldn't say my plans are to restore it. Just get rid of the rust issues and have a nice, solid daily driver. Fenders are aftermarket (fiberglass)

For that price and how far away it is I would keep looking. The blue one above for 7k more is a lot cleaner, even though doesnt have the turbo, its pretty nice, and wouldnt cost as much to ship as its closer.

I would not pay an importer though, if your considering that. Ive bought a couple of Land cruisers out of Canada, its a one page form, and pay 2.5% tax at the border, and your done. Very straightforward.
On two of them the customs guy didnt even leave the building to go look at the vehicle.
You could fly to the Quebec one, and rent a uhual to take it home, or have it shipped, or drive it if you want an adventure.
Whatever you decide, best wishes though!

All I will say is that looks like a lot of rust from the pictures. Once you start digging in it could be a lot worse. The time and $ you'll save from a rust free rig will be worth much more than $6k in my book.

There have to be modifications in the frame mounts too then. Seems like this is quite mixed one, which lowers value.
asking $18,000 CAD = $13,500 USD
$8500 USD too much. I’d not be interested.

some day ill figure out the pricing on these things! Seems like I should subtract $10k from whatever I assume and thats more like it! haha

Appreciate the advice from everyone. Will be passing again! Some day...

It lives near the ocean on Vancouver island. Probably full of rust
Look in the clubhouse section Vancouver island group. The guys there would most likely no the truck. I’ve never seen that rig before but I also don’t get over to the island very often. That’s a big tow bill to your area.

Dont!!!!

Might have missed the price but that thing is hacked together. The duct tape on the turbo piping is a nice touch...

Mine came from the island also and i think i got what i paid for. Very fair price

I paid a few thousand less also then the asking on that one

yeah keep looking. the rear sill will need replacing. there will be more rust in there than expected. i boughtnone from vancouver island sight unseen and was very disappointed at the rust free description only to find bondo, rust and even holes in the floor boards.

also the air filter hose is duct taped to the turbo!! what other mechanical fails will you find!!

at least not for that price.
