I work at a small engine repair shop (we actually have a full machine shop in the back that no one knows how to run)

anyway i'm always getting people asking me to do knuckle rebuilds and 90% of the time i have to turn them down because of a lack of spare time/tools at home.

I never have the time or tools at home to do them and if i do it's a PITA to get them from work to here.

Over the winter from Nov to March 31st I got the owner to approve doing knuckle rebuilds at the shop. We have a shop large enough to keep all vehicles parked inside.

For all paid UC member price would be $250 labor to install bearing/seal kits. You supply your own knuckle rebuild kit and grease/fluids to cut down on my shopping list and you get to use whatever products you consider best.

For non UC members $350.

Considering that it's a 6-8 hour job so long as you don't break any rusty bolts or find leaky brake lines or other unplanned obstacles it's a pretty good price considering our labor rate is on par with most smaller auto shops at $58 an hour.

I have to split the labor 50/50 with the shop but it's a small price to pay in order to access the full machine shop in the back!!!

So if your not an UC member...pay the fifteen bucks and get a $100 discount!!!

a donation of $1.00 from each knuckle rebuild will go towards me keeping my fj40 as non clemson mafia like as possible.

expand your business idea to breaks and such!

i don't mind doing brakes and small jobs and such...not really a business venture...just making some extra cash for bills/crap while the season is slow.

The wife going p/t is gonna hurt along with her missing 3 mos of work or more with the baby. She has not gotten a pay check since the first of Aug. Baby is due Nov 2nd.

There are already plenty of grease monkeys out there to change your oil and brakes!!!

but if someone rolls in wanting an engine conversion...lift... or bumper....i might be able to come up with some numbers.

if i can come up with some scratch before mar i will let u know!!

full knuckle rebuild (two little bearings upper and lower that i don't know the name for as well as wheel hub bearings) and seals

Will also include setting pre load via fish scale.

Basicly if you call marlin crawler or your favorite supplier and say i want a full knuckle rebuild kit with wheel bearings (that usually run extra) you'll get everything installed.

And you also get the stickers back that come in the box.

Since I don't have a garage anymore and all my tools are in storage I would definitely be a customer over the colder months.

Where is the best place to get the kit and extras you speak of??

Thanks

FNG Kevin

marlin crawler

I've heard that Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters is good too. I've read that the marlin crawler HD axle seals MAY not be as good for the 80s as the OEM. Don't quote me on that. Search on the 80 forum for the discussion. I've got Marlin's on the front of my 4runner and like Marlin's stuff a lot. But... it was kinda interested to read that the HD axle seals are better for the older ones...inner or outer not sure... Just my .02! Like I said don't quote me...

u need to post this on onc and georgia forums as well. Nc guys would probably happily come down and ga guys within reasonable distance as well.

Location is stone Ave in down town Greenvile. Since I don't have a star and this is only a seasonal offer. I don't want to go outside uc but its a great idea Gabe. Maybe word of mouth will travel to those guys

I vote yes for Marlin on 40 and 60's.

Go with Kurt and Cruiser Outfitters.....great guy and knows his stuff....good prices too

Are you guys the shop at W Stone Ave & Wilton St??

West stone and Townes

missed it by a street.

Any suggestions on grease/fluid? Im starting to save for the parts needed

there are several threads on mud about it.

I use the store brand 80w90 and then whatever MP grease/wheel bearing grease is cheapest.

I'm glad i'm doing them at work now instead of home, i've got a good wash down pad to pressure wash the axles/hubs before working on them along with a parts washer.
