Has anybody here installed one of those early 4Runner inclinometers (the one with the altimeter) in their 62? I saw one for sale here that I was too late to grab and I think it'd be a great addition to the truck...if anybody has done it or knows about it, what would have to be done to integrate it into dash? I figure I'll have to find some way to wire it in to get the backlighting, but beyond that I have no idea.

So...on to my next question...did those inclinometers come in brown trim, and if so, would anyone like to sell one to me?:D

They did come in grey and brown. I've always been a fan of the non usa option for the 60 series, but the 4runner is obviously the only inclinometer/altimeter the 62 can use (lack of the blank space)

I Don't know about fitment but it sounds like a cool idea to me. Better than the aftermarket one at 4-wheel parts with a jeep on it. Let us know how it works.

I will let you all know how it goes, just have to figure out some things.

I'm kind of unusual in the fact that I'm somewhat of a purist and don't often think of adding extras onto the truck, but I feel better about this because it's a Toyota part...besides, it'll look and work great:D

The only issue I'm having though is this: I'm not sure where to put it!

The 62 dash curves quite a bit and the only real flat place I could put it would be right above the radio, and even then it's not totally flat there...and, I'm not sure how much room there is for mounting inbetween the radio and the top of the dash. Maybe I could avoid the tearing apart the whole dash by just pulling the radio and bracket? I'm not sure...I need to have my radio refurbished anyway (stock unit) so I may just combine the two jobs and stick it in while the radio is out. Unless I have to pull the dash to remove the radio anyway...I honestly have no idea. Which is where you all come in! Once more, advice from anyone? Regarding either where/how to mount it, how to wire it for lighting, or any of that!

I'm hoping this works out well, considering I can't add the overhead console from the HJ61...

I have one of these. It looks great.

I'm still unsure how to wire it up to my harness ... Anyone got a good link on a thread ??

I also have the name of a guy on here who may have some more for MUCH less than the guy on ebay.

Thanks for the link and possible name, but the reason I'm looking for the 4Runner inclinometer is simply because the 62 dash does not have room for the early 60 series inclinometer. Toyota remedied this by installing an inclinometer in the sunroof control panel of the high-roof HJ61's. If there was a place for the 60 inclinometer in the dash I'd get it, but I don't have that space. Plus, I don't need the clock that comes with the 60 one, since one is already in my dash. I've tried thinking through possible solutions, and the best I can come up with is the 4Runner one. It would sit right on top of the dash since it already has a plastic surround around it, and it has the altimeter, which replaces the clock found on the 60 inclinometer and the 4WD indicator on the Tercel inclinometer.

As for the Tercel inclinometer, i've seen a few here and there, and they're basically identical to the 4Runner's except in place of the altimeter, they just put a big lit up "4WD" engaged thing. Kinda redundant since I have a light for that reason as well.

Only issue with this whole thing though is 1.) the wiring, which is a bit much for me to understand, and 2.) I'm not really crazy about drilling into my nice clean dash...

Just keep an eye out on ebay/craigslist and check out your local junk yards for 4runner/tercels

Curious if anyone has pics or a write up of their install. I just picked one up today.

I was looking at the pictures and it looks like you could remove the gauges all in one piece fairly easy.... If the gauges were small enough I would love to take the nissan one and mount it uder my radio!!! to fill the gap of my single din radio!!

hunt around and email some wrecking yards ect in Australia, the inclinometer is factory in the aust released vehicles. ive seen a lot of 60's in the scrap metal yard with them still fitted

Just mounted it above the radio slot. Wiring it up was painless. The backlight is nice.

That looks nice can we see some shots o it in the daylight? like did your color match the dash color??

Eldorardo, I am extremely jealous :D

Now all I need is a brown one of those and some time and I'd be set...

Would you mind terribly giving a short explanation of how you went about wiring the lighting up? It doesn't have to be a whole essay, just the basics. I'd really appreciate that!

Here is the job, coming from a Nissan Patrol. Still have to wire the Backlight...
