Im using some 2 wire actuators and using my alarm as the trigger. The diagram calls for 2 SPDT relays, one for lock and one for unlock. My question is how many relays will I need for 4 doors? can I use the 2 relays for all 4 doors?

I don't know for sure, but it does seem like you would need two for each door. A SPDT relay routes current between the 87 and 87a terminals, depending upon whether there is current applied to the relay. At first, I thought 87 could be lock and 87a could be unlock. But that won't work, because your actuators would constantly be on (either opening or closing). So you don't want constant power to the actuators, just power long enough to open or close the door.

I don't know what your schematic looks like, but I gather there are two wires from the alarm (one with voltage when you hit lock, and one for unlock.) You wire each of those wires to the 85 terminal of a relay (86 to ground) and you wire battery power to the #30 terminal. Then you would wire your actuators to the 87 terminal of each relay (normally open).

The result would be when you hit your lock button, the corresponding wire from your alarm will charge the relay, switching the current to the 87 terminal and charging the actuator.

Long winded, but does that sound right?

Code Alarm CA 680
(4) IMC1004-2 Actuators

Wish I had a way to scan the install schematic.....
What they show is 87 and 86 getting 12V constant from the batt, 87a chassis ground, 85 being lock/unlock output from the alarm and 30 being the signal to the actuator.

Sounds like they just have the current going the other way through 30/87. Seems like you wouldn't want 87a grounded as you would also have a current drain through the relay - but I'm sure somebody with more expertise could chime in about that.

Keep us posted. I don't mind unlocking my own door - it's trying to reach the others that gets old.

Did you get this figured out? I just got my kit from the Hoffman group. It came with two relays. It's going to be project to install, since I'm redoing my stereo setup speakers, amp, and deck (inside tuffybox) and second skining my doors with their sound stuff. I'll try to take pics as I go. But any upfront advice or tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks

yeah I did, I have the ability to scan stuff now so I'll scan in the Doorlock relay wiring diagram when I start pulling the doors apart.I made a call to use 4 relays, 2 for the front and 2 for the rear, this should be more than adequate, these actuators dont draw that much current at all. Im going to post all that stuff in my build thread here....

My interior project will be:

Stereo
Pioneer CD headunit with IPOD controller
sony 4 CH amp
MB quart 5 1/4 separates in the front
Pioneer 3 way 6X9 in rear
10" Amplified Bazooka tube
Dynamat interior
replace door panel vapor barrier with cool sound deadening vapor barrier stuff

Interior
New SOR carpet kit
New IPOR Front seats
re-cover rear seat to match fronts
clean and detail interior, was smoker vehicle and I have NEVER, EVER seen this kind of tar build up before on anything. the headliner is nearly black in spots.
Taskled LED's

Security
Code alarm security system
add 4 door lock actuators for keyless entry/illuminated entry
Starter kill
remote paging

Any updates with the door actuators? I started mine last night was hoping for some direction as to how you mounted the actuator and the new metal rod.

Im just getting to that point, I'll be running power, triggger and speaker wire into the doors tonight. I'll take a look and if I see a easy mount spot I'll go ahead and slap one on and post some pics

I was under the impression that the alarm controller reversed the polarity causing it to lock or unlock, so only 1 relay is needed. The actuator that I have for a rear hatch only came with 1 relay. I never ended up installing it so I don't know if it works that way or not. The car audio shop did my door actuators for me.
