I need to install my windshield into a 1962 fj40 with the vent below. I ordered the gasket and lock ring but have not looked at it yet. Any tips or known posts on how to install it. I have installed windshields before, but never with a lock ring. I figured this would be the best group to help me.

A warm day helps, softens the rubber. Use windex as a lubricant. To make it really easy you can buy a windshield lock strip tool for about $10 to $30.
It can be done without a special tool, you can use the end of a paint brush (plastic would be the best) to help spread the opening and stuff the lock strip in. A right angle awl also helps by prying the weatherstripping out as you stuff the lock strip in. Spray windex in the opening as you move along.
Having the windshield frame off the Cruiser and on a table makes it easier, and having someone help stuff while you pry the weatherstripping open helps also.
I hope that makes since.

Does the lock ring go inside or outside or will it be real clear when I open the box. I assume the outside since the windshield gets installed on the outside.

Thanks, what a pain compared to the newer styles where you put the rubber on the window with some string. But my son and I, mostly my son got it in, took about 20 minutes.

The one glass shop here would not touch it. They had no problem cutting the glass for it for $70 which I thought was a bargain but they did not install these with the old lock rings. Not that I would have paid them, I like doing everything my self but we asked out of curiosity.

I found a Mobile windshield guy in Thousand Oaks who came and installed at my place for $30 back in 2005/2006. I bought the windshield glass from Toyota. I watched him putting it in and it didn't look like difficult at all, 15 mins later he was done.
