Inquired about a part they listed. Asked me to send PayPal friends/family b/c of the fees. Replied back and said I'd give them +15% to cover the fees but would need to send as a purchase to protect myself. Dead silence on their end.

@OGBeno is 100% correct, scammers.

I just started browsing around FB Australia groups for parts.

It was a complete scammy cesspool, and I deleted the post. I called them out and left.

Please, folks, buy stuff from folks that you trust. I know everyone is out there looking for a great deal on parts, but the reality is the global parts support for all vehicles is concentrated only in some small areas. Generic names for sources generally speaking are not legitimate. They are scam operations. They use keyword searches to distinguish themselves. I know the temptation is very very specific. I know everyone here is obsessed with NOS parts. The fact of the matter is that most of the old stuff is dried up. Almost extinct. Some small sellers from the Middle East have these things. Otherwise it’s a scam.

I am a Moderator on a 60-series Facebook group. Has about 15k members. I probably delete/ban 90% of sales posts due them being scams. If someone posts looking for a part I probably delete a similar number of comments. Maybe 10% of people requesting to join can even answer the simple application questions properly. We added rules that require a photo with your name/date/info in any sales pic to try to help but man there are a LOT of scammers.

Just cruisin the mud and whilst looking for parts I came across this thread. ...was wondering if FJ Depot is legit. And without getting a long list, how does one find out most of the legits.

i could be wrong, but i'd think that any of the supporting vendors in here would be legit. also, someplace in here is a "bad sellers" thread :meh:

FJ Depot on ebay is legit, but often their ads are deceptive, giving the impression you're getting an OE Toyota part, but what shows up is aftermarket. You have to read their copy VERY carefully.

@FJ62 Jose

Go to the vendors section of the forum and browse around to get an idea of some of the good companies out there. Look for folks on here with the red “vendor” logo by their name. See what companies are sponsoring events & trail rides, or work with the local Toyota/Land Cruiser club in your area. Sign up to become a TLCA member and see who is advertising in their Toyota Trails magazine. Check the Bad Sellers forum in the classifieds section. That will give you an idea of the landscape. I’d say 98% of the Instagram and Facebook sellers are a scam. PayPal Friends & Family requests are a scam. Generic parts photos or photos where the background is different in every one are a scam (I’ve seen one IG seller that had a US license plate in the background, a Euro plate in another, and a Middle East plate in another - some IG parts dweeb with 2500 followers isn’t operating out of three continents). eBay seems like a crap shoot and I’ve stayed away from it for that reason, so you’re on your own there.

I bought a set of “OEM” fog lights for my 60 from them. They were trash. Very thin stamped metal made in India. Rough casting on the mounting brackets. The glass lenses didn’t even sit flush to the body and they were so far from waterproof I didn’t even consider installing them. Absolute garbage and not worth your time. I won’t buy anything from them again even if I NEED it. What they sell is garbage.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

good info on FJ Depot...i ordered a set of "OEM" running boards for my recently acquired 78 FJ40. got the order confirmation email, now 2 weeks later no other follow up, no shipping confirmation, and no reply to my contact attempts

basically anyone on instagram that isnt "tractor wagons" aka brooke carr, is generally a scam. I order from Brooke all the time though
