Do you guys have any recommendation on an inexpensive rear tire carrier for the FZJ80? There was a mud member that made custom ones that was really cheap long time ago, but I'm not sure he is around or still makes it.

There was a tire carrier I saw on a members truck that was removable. It attached to the hitch. I winder if a pass through can be made to allow full function of the hitch while still carrying the tire?

Love the knucklebone design. Would make for a cool carrier if i could fit a Rear hitch in the stock location.

I believe they use the pintle mount location so that the hitch is not obstructed.

This looks like it would make it so you could put the $80 rear mount on the pintle mount location.

Toyota Land Cruiser Trailer Hitch Pintle Hook Mount, 5-1/2" Tall, 6K

While it's designed to adapt a 2" trailer mount to a pintle, you could just flip it over, bolt it directly to the bumper and convert the pintle base that comes stock on Series 80s into a 2" receiver, and would accept the above-mentioned rear mount.

Check out my sig, I made one for around $150 plus welding time.

My signature should be showing... As far as I know it will fit any of the 80s that have those four holes above the hitch (or where the hitch goes). Some drilling required.

Strap it on a Hitch Cargo Carrier and have room for a Cooler or some Jerry Cans?
Guess it can all get stolen unless chained?

I was looking at the Wilco design and for the price kind of like it. I would love to get a Slee rear end but can't justify the $2500 plus for one. I just had a hitch mounted tire carrier made and it sticks out way more than I wanted but at least I have something to carry a 35' spare with a high lift and a tool box. It may look ugly but for $500 why not. The picture is for fitting. It's not done yet. Once it's done and everything is added, I'll post new pictures.

@Hilndr1701

Is the design setup so you can swing to either side, or is there more going on not yet pictured?

Once it's done it will only swing one direction, in order keep things tight and keep it from rattling or moving. It's designed to open about 120 degrees so it won't hit the other mall crawlers in the parking lot. Most will open a full 180 but I was worried a gust of wind could open it and hit another car. But after looking at it, I could reverse the bolt and the pin and have it open either direction. I'll have to experiment with it when it's done. I'll post more pictures when it's done.

How has it worked out for you? Still happy with it? Does it rattle or shake?

Other than sticking out like a sore thumb, I'm getting use to it more and more. I have been waiting to get final pictures of it after it stops snowing but it hasn't stopped yet. Once it does I'll get the final pictures on here.
It doesn't move at all. There is a wedge that can be tightened by a bolt once it's inside the hitch. I also asked for a couple extra secure points that I can attach two turn buckles to the tie down points on the underside of the 80. Once all three points are tight, the carrier is solid. I towed a little Ford Ranger out of the snow and up a few blocks with it and it didn't have a problem.
The space between the carrier and the back of the 80 drives me nuts but I have plenty of room to attach a Highlift jack and something else like some Maxtrax, if I could ever afford them. I'm not too disappointed anymore because it is a budged build and finally gives the the option of carrying my spare with out throwing it on top of the rack and it's completely removable if I so desire.
As soon as the snow melts a bit I'll get some finished pictures.
