Increased boost, lower EGTs?

Yup, I gear down alright or would stall out! and yes it does get to 1000F in second on a steep hill.

no boost compensator.
Jan, seriously, i have ridden with you, i want you to relax.
set the fuel the way i had it, hell crank it up another 1/4 turn and head for Antler hill, hit the bottom in 5th at 110, then when the EGTs hit 1250 drop to fourth and DRIVE it but keep the eye on the EGTs. in reality you should be able to do that hill at 100-110 in 4th with EGTs between 1000-1200F at the top.

contary to popular belief, diesels DO NOT like to be lugged. they like to breath a breath of fresh air just like anything else does.
lugging equals unreal EGTs

here is a test, drive Antler hill lugging it and see what the EGTs are then drive it harder and see what happens.

Do you have any air leaks? Check all the clamps and listen fit air leaking when boosting, a small leak will throw everything off.

i normally agree with you crusher but this sounds wrong
10 psi max with extremely low power i would say you have problems

sounds to me like a blocked exhaust / muffler

whats the condition of your filters like ?

how long does the truck take to start

?

wow that's pretty high... I was at 1000F going 80km/h in rogers pass on the 10 mile hill. in calgary when I drive up 19th I am maybe at 800F going up it at 30km/h. I have not touched my boost or fuel.

Something not right

Why is that?

1000F = 537C.

550C is supposed to be the max post-turbo.

But CanukMariner has his EGT probe positioned pre-turbo.

Not sure what the recommended max is pre-turbo, maybe 650C, which would be 1200F?

Is your EGT probe pre-turbo like CanukMariner, or post-turbo which would give different temp readings?

Starts right away, very easy start! Exhaust/muffler is quite new as replaced when turbo installed and enlarged. All filters replaced or cleaned routinely.

I would say this is a lesson in "don't eff with stuff unless you actually know what you are doing" or at least talk to someone beforehand. Someone in the area needs to go for a drive with you. I would do it but I'm in the kootenays, so not really that close.

1-check air filter
2-check for broken air piping/hoses/manifold gasket on pressure side (some oil may be present where air is escaping)
3-remove turbo intake pipe, is there excessive shaft play? damaged fins (if you are making 10psi turbo is probably ok)
4-does the wastegate actuator move freely? You will need a crescent wrench as it should be fairly stiff (again, if you are making 10psi it is probably ok)
5-Has the exhaust been damaged? (crushed)
6-Has the timing been altered? Has the 'tone' of the motor changed? Does it have a different 'clack' sound?
7-Skip all the above steps and have someone come over and have a look at your truck.

Not sure if you come by Red Deer often but I can have a look if you like. Just finished tuning a 1HD-T for my buddy. Running 15 psi of max boost no intercooler. Still have to lean out the fuel cause there is still a little black coming out the exhaust at full boost which is just wasted fuel.

Launches way harder off the bat, EGT's can climb fairly fast will have to do more testing after some more minor adjustments.

sweet jesus that would be fun at 15 psi.
No intercooler tho, can't that be a bad thing.

I told him to keep a close eye on his Pyro and to back out when it gets to the 1200 mark. It's not a push the pedal and don't worry tune. It goes fast but you have to back out of it. But that is what he wants so that is how I tuned it. It launches hard in comparison to a stock 1HD-T.

Send location info by email (profile) and we'll see if we can get up that way. If not, perhaps when you come south to cowtown someday.

I bet that launches hard. I always wanted to increase the boost in mine but I think an intercooler would be the safe bet for that....
Maybe next truck:)

i want you to think about this...
15 lbs boost is the stated max, this will not change the launch at all. it will change the performance only above the stock 10 lbs.
