I ordered a probe for my egts and I would like to know if I can place it on the turbo side right where it comes conected to the exhaust manifold. I would place it on the manifold but I dont have enough space. Here is a picture of where I would place it.

Why not mount it on the exhaust manifold instead? The turbo is already off so you wouldn't get metal shavings in the turbo and you'd be tapping into a simpler, cheaper part in case something goes wrong or you needed to re-do something. I think you would need to modify the heat shield to allow room for the probe, but that wouldn't be terribly difficult.

either should work, just get it in the middle of the stream

Ex Manifold is an easier placement like at junction of all runners

But as long as its pre turbo and in main stream......

2 ways here , before and after turbo.
Before you have a more correct reading of temperature, but as we all know cast iron is prone of cracking when drilled , plus If THE probe has a problem you will be looking for a new motor !
After turbo ,temperature reading is shifted of a prox 100 C. But installing THE probe on THE exsaust pipe there is no risk of cracking, AND If any think goes ring with THE probe no damedge to THE motor.

I have it after turbo .
Just my 2 cents

Thanks for your replies. I'll try my best to put it in the exhaust manifold. I think pre turbo is the most accurate and I never heard of probes breaking or causing trouble, hopefully mine won't either.

better than in the downpipe
