inclinometer in a 40?

I had one of these in my last truck. It had truck pics rather than a heep, but this was the first I could find quickly. They shouldn't be more than $30. They have a built in backlight. Anyway, It never did much good except scare the passenger when we went past 30*. Should be easy enough to put one in the dash.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I appreciate everyone's input. I know about all the types of inclinometers out there, though. What I would really like to see/read are more examples of the OEM 1st gen 4runner (only) clinometers that are now installed in 40s. We have a nice example of one so far... anyone else?

This is what the original looks like...

I'm looking for one now. Saw it in my mechanic's 4runner and knew I wanted it then and there. I did give some thought to grabbing the cool looker from the FJ Cruiser when I rode with a guy who had one. But they max out at 30 degrees and the manual states that stock 40s are designed to go to 67 degrees.

I put one in mine a while back. Just bolted up from the bottom of the pad (has a dash cover on it also). Hooked the light to the under dash light below it and it works fine. I do not remember it being that big of a deal. Here is a pic.

Honest question.
Not trying to be smart...

Shouldn't the instrument be level front to back as well as side to side?
Can it still read accurately?

It has adjustments to make it what you want for a starting point, you can even take out the cruiser lean. They really do not do much for you, the cool factor is about all.

if they stop at 45 degrees what the use, mine gets maxed all the time, i can tell you when i hit the 45 plus range because my funderroos are wedge in my cheeks

Oh BTW your Hot Wheels GPS nav console is the Shizit:grinpimp:

Just tie a string to your inside rear view mirror and tie a metal object (nut ?) to it. When it's leaning you know you are on a slope. When it hits you in the face you know you have gone past the point of no return.

Sorry for the smart alec reply, but I just couldn't help myself.

Inclinometer

Here is mine installed. Mounted with caulk. Used acrylic just in case it didn't work. Meaning I won't hurt the original dash and also easy (well at least easier) clean up. Only water and elbow grease. Speaking of which I need to apply some to clean up the final look.

What about the original dealer installed ones??

For most of us there was no OEM or dealer installed inclinometer in the 40 series.
