Yo... so I'm curious, just how much does it cost to get a half-cut imported to the US? I see a gentleman in Oregon selling 1/2 cut diesel 4runners from Japan for $6k-$8k. Is it "easy" to find and import your own 1/2 cut, or is the $6k-$8k price tag pretty reasonable?

Like most of you knuckleheads out there, I love the pipedream of someday converting my stock FJ62 to a diesel setup though, due to monetary and time issues, will probably never make it happen. But a guy can dream!

Thanks.

It is easy if you hire people to do it for you. It is not easy at all if you want to try to figure it out all on your own. It is very expensive for Land Cruiser stuff.
Also, you end up with an extremely expensive used engine of unknown history and any parts you need in the future will need to be shipped from halfway around the world (if they can be found).

Here is some correspondence from a Jim's Auto Dubai (exporter) regarding importing a LC 7X series half cut into the USA.

"If you want the older 4.2L 6 cylinder diesel, we would have to buy and ship a 2006 or older vehicle's front half. This way you get the engine, fuel delivery system, transmission, and all of the wiring and this would be far cheaper than trying to get just a complete engine assembly from Toyota. As far as getting it to fit and work in the vehicle you want it to, and any local emissions regulations we are unfortunately not able to help. If you want the new 1VD-FTV engine then we will have to purchase a post-2006 LC76. In any event those are not cheap. Budget around $25,000 for a front cut of 4.2 and $32K for a 4.5 vehicle."

Ok, now you're just bragging!

Agreed.

I would build an epic 60 and the spend $10-20k buying a legally importable 70 series with diesel....

Oh wait...

That's exactly what I am doing .

;)

Well not really. The 60 is sad and sitting with the entire interior gutted while I spend all my time with the 70.

I really need to get back to the 60 soon.

You'd better hurry up, they do get jealous ya know.
