I will have to go back and look at the Fedex international charges, but the duty tax is real. It really eliminated any savings I had for ordering from Impex. Again, I'm going from memory but I think all said and done my new pump with the 105 shaft shipped, received and duty paid was within $100 of a box from cruiser outfitters.

according to Ai, duty from Japan is between 24% up to 30%

I'm assuming your experience was also before the additional 25% government import tax (tariffs) came into force for importing auto parts from Japan to the US at the start of May? Theoretically that should now bite anyone trying to directly import goods like this. Local resellers like Cruiser Outfitters will also most likely be raising their prices significantly once any local stock is exhausted, since 25% will be well above their entire profit margin, they'd be selling at a loss if they didn't raise prices. Something to consider.

Ya basically we will pay more for most everything !!
Thanks to the King

this was before any of the new tariffs.

on the other hand, other than Cruiser Outfitters I had very limited options so I was able to get a part that was basically NLA for a "fair" price. So if you look at it that way, it's a win but still just to toss out the full picture.....

We have a handful (3+) of the LH 80/105 boxes in stock but they are post-tariff so prices already bumped. There isn't a business model in the US to compete with the prices of Amayama or Impex in the US, not our aim nor intention. Rather we stock parts, know what they fit, what else is needed to use/install and ship them the same day they are ordered. We employ Cruiserheads, contribute to Cruiser community events, endeavors and land use efforts to keep trails open. Entirely different business models.

and for me even a couple hundred dollars savings isn't worth it to try to bypass a great vendor who has exactly what you need and will support it.

Now if you are on a voyage to find those NLA parts then that's a different story, but keep in mind there are a lot of fees getting parts across the ocean into the country.

What's the going rate from your company?

Duties and tariffs are indeed hitting every cruiser business.

Japanese-manufactured parts have skyrocketed in pricing. Regardless of where you are buying them from.

It's been quite the s***show telling a client that their $50K project just got 25% more expensive. :banghead:

We have had at least two pretty good-sized engine projects pulled due to the increases in parts. Clients just can't justify that kind of increase.

And it's for things like shop supplies, daily use items, oils and fluids, etc. It's across the entire gamut of the auto industry supply chains.

I believe these are it on their web site.
Steering Box: $3250.50

105 Pitman Arm: $147.50

Still need nut (90170-22058), washer (94511-02200)

Prices can change rapidly...

BTW, I don't think I paid import duty when I bought my steering box ($1204.39) and 105 pitman ($56.66) from Impex in July of 2024. I might have paid it since it was over $800 but I can't find evidence of actual payment...I will need to do more searching...

I have done thousands of dollars of business with CruiserTeq...RCV axles, hubs, birfields, axle rebuild kits, etc. I just couldn't justify extra $$$$ for the steering box.

Edited..I found it. $52.50 paid to Fed Ex for covering import duty.

I also got hit with a $400+ duty fee. Ordered from Partsouq in March, was delayed and returned to sender, finally arrived in May. I'm disputing it with FedEx currently.

If you really want a new box, here is the alternative, 80 series steering box 44110-60211, list price $2,500. I'm sure you can find it for less.

A bit off the original topic but we know many people have rebuilt their own steering gear boxes so wondering (with all the price fluctuations, tariffs, import dutes) if anyone has ordered a new valve assembly and the other parts needed for a complete rebuild?? The cost would be ? less than half that of a new box and (bonus) you don't have to fiddle with the balls and seals associated with the valve assy??

We all like shiny new parts but then how often does the housing itself need to be replaced??
ie: clean and bead blast the housing, put it all back together with a complete new valve assy, etc, then repaint with a catalyzed epoxy primer/paint??

Example of some of the major parts (@OGBeno would know all that's required):

Valve Assembly: 44120-60180
Shaft: 44111-60030
Toyota gear box reseal kit: 04445-60050
Needle bearings (2): 903643-36016

FWIW
