I am shipping some parts stateside in a container and if it sells the rig will be coming in that container.. ETA 2-3 weeks from this post.

I don't even know. How do you get clear title to buy and ship a rig like this to Denver? Also it looks newer than a 1978. What am I missing? Thx. Jeff

When its states side i apply for a florida title and when that is issued it can be transferred to any state.

Can you please comment on the engine type, tranny, and if it would be able to be compliment with US emissions? Here is the scoop from DMV: Non-U.S.-certified vehicles, sometimes referred to as "gray market" vehicles are those manufactured for sale and use in other countries. These vehicles may or may not come equipped with all of the emissions control components required on all U.S. vehicles.

In order to pass the Denver-area emissions test, these vehicles must be properly retrofitted, or the owner must present state-approved paperwork for an exemption. Such vehicles must be evaluated at an emissions technical center operated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

Also does it have heat, AC and PS and/ PB. Still have the hardtop ? Thanks again Jeff

If I am not mistaken this wouldnt apply to this vehicle as its over 25 yeards old therefore exempting the vehicle from any emissions requirements.

It has POwer steering and disc brakes. I still have the hard top. It does not have ac or heat.

Hi Florida FJ
Yes, I wish we were so lucky regarding emissions. It looks like emissions do apply to model year 1976 or later. :( I don't suppose your vehicle has emission controls appropriate for a 1978 model? Is the engine a Toyota 2F six cylinder or a diesel? If your's doesn't have emissions, I wonder if they can be added to comply with Colorado Law?

Collector Plate Regulations Change August 7, 2013

House Bill 13-1071 Summary

  • Changes the definition of a collector’s item to include vehicles that are 32 years old and older.
  • Requires vehicles model year 1976 and later to comply with emissions testing requirements upon registration and re-registration.
  • Requires the vehicle owner of a collector’s item to sign an affidavit acknowledging that the vehicle will not be driven on roadways more than 4,500 miles per year.
Who Does the Bill Impact?

  • Motorists who own a vehicle at least 32 years old are now able to register the vehicle as a collector’s item.
  • Motorists who own a 1976 and newer model year vehicle that was registered as a collector’s item prior to September 2009. Beginning August 7th, 2013, to re-register a collector’s item that is model year 1976 or later, the owner must have a certificate of emissions compliance.
Benefits to Vehicle Owners

  • Increases the number of vehicles that may qualify as a collector’s item.
  • Allows vehicles model year 1976 and later, that are registered as a collector’s item, to comply with emissions requirements every five years instead of on an annual or biannual cycle.
  • Allows vehicles model year 1976 and later, that are registered as a collector’s item, to complete the license plate renewal process every five years instead of annually.

Colorado Department of Revenue Emissions Program??? That smells!!! Does Al Gore live there too?

It seems that Colorado has a very lefty government to impose such rules on 40 year old trucks to comply with emissions, unfortunately it's all about revenue just like the name infers. Just buy yourself an FJ Cruiser that's 100% emissions compliant in all 50 states, or if you want an FJ40 then...move to a RED state and be done with it!

The sad thing is, there aren't going to be many red states soon. Unless you count Russian or Chineese controlled states as Red. Emissions is just another revenue generator.

Please don't make it sound like the lefties are taking over, it's not over until the fat lady sings. I don't think Hillary sings so it would have to be another fat lady. No Russian or Chinese states, just states in our union! Thank you!

Ok, any idea where I can purchase that type of soft top? I think those are still legal in Colorado and I love the design . ;).

I am still interested if it were possible to add heat and emissions at a reasonable cost. AC would be nice too
