I'll keep this short. I'm putting my 80 up for sale on Bring a Trailer (no reserve) going live 8/4 at 130PM Los Angeles. Add to the commentary pile as you see fit. As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats.

It's been ~6.5 years since I picked up my beloved '97 factory locked 80. It's been nearly 7 years of reading, researching and interacting with the incredible group of ih8ers here. I learned so much and had so much fun chasing after the next thing to refresh, upgrade and enjoy. I lived vicariously through your travels into the wild.

My 80 is by far the longest I've ever owned a vehicle and so appropriate that it's also the oldest approaching 28 years of faithful service!
  • I can't believe I poured through online parts diagrams to build a brand new, 100% OEM new 1FZ-FE
  • I can't believe it's been 7 years of life that's passed
  • I can't believe I'm saying goodbye
Thanks to my friends @NorCalFJ100 @midfat for all the text exchanges and Korean BBQ dinners in Ktown. Thanks to ih8 vets like @davidp14
@Kernal
@BILT4ME @jpoole @mingles @OffRoadScott @orangefj45 @OGBeno @thatcabledude @Bludozer @Red Merle @FMC80 @TYM4FUN @SteelHunterFJ80 @cruiseroutfit @CSteppe82 @brettk @Atomic City @ClassyJalopy @TheRealDeal124 @SNLC @mudgudgeon @landtank @Irish Reiver and so many others for your 80 camaraderie.

Golly, I'm going to look back on this 80 fondly. I dread the day when I have to hand the keys over to the next owner. I really hope it goes to a good home. It'll be the most special car I've ever owned in my life because I won't repeat what I went through ever again. Once in a lifetime. A Labor of ♥️.

Gratitudes! Enjoy yours in good health!

-Ben

I hope it sells well for you.

I'm sad that you'll be parting ways with it, as you have gone far beyond what most do with their trucks.

Let us know what NLA spare parts you're willing to part with......

I hear you, my time is coming soon with my fleet. Nice truck. You’ll do well.

Has there been a BAT 80 yet with a fresh and new 1FZ? I will be watching since mine is also fresh! 😆🤙

Cheers

Not that I've kept a close eye on it, but I can count on one hand how many on this very forum, but I could be wrong. lol

Just read the listing. Don’t see anything about it being a completely new engine. Don’t see anything about all the OEM parts you put in the Cruiser. Do see problems listed. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers

BaT, as I've come to learn, has a very neutral editorial style. This is why the comments are so important. It's my first go so I'm learning as well. I'll be in the comments best I can.

GLWS. Sorry to see you selling it and moving on, but I get it. I dropped a comment for you in the BAT sale comments.

Good luck on your future endeavors. :cheers:

I paid attention, closely, to your content here and elsewhere. You are actually one of the big reasons why I doggedly pursued replacing OEM parts with genuine OEM parts. My 80, and this community, is better because of your contributions to Toyota world. Teşekkürler!

All good things come to an end. It wasn't an ez decision and this selling process is emotional for me, but I've made up my mind. I got the most I can out of my 80 experience and will only have the best of memories with this truck and community. Thanks, SAK.

BTW, the two accidents are currently in dispute with Carfax.

Damn hate to see a good looking rig go up for sale. Mine is for sale too but in no rush to sell.

GLWS I hope you get a figure that eases the pain! 😆
They sure do get under your skin.

Someone is gonna get a great truck!

Ps,
I want Korean BBQ now that you mentioned it!

Been ages since I had good Korean BBQ. There's a strong Korean community in a few parts of Sydney. Korean BBQ was always a treat!
For a few weeks I had a Korean crew on a project I did. They cooked lunch on site every day, and when they realised i liked Korean food, brought me steaming hot lunch every day! 👌👌 *chef's kiss!* amazing!

Anytime you're in LA, hit me up. I'll get my 80 friends to join us for the best Korean BBQ outside of South Korea in Koreatown Los Angeles!

Damn, great outro.

Good luck and it has been nice following along.

🍻
