GLWS. I may be joining you soon.

Maybe it's something in the air? Maybe I just have two young kids and absolutely 0 time. Hard to say

Either way, it does not feel good. Send me a detailed write-up via mud PM of your feels after it sells so I can figure out if I even have the balls.

Sorry to see you go. I've watched your build process over the years and used some of your parts lists. Thank you for your contribution to this forum. If I was in the market for an 80 it would be one like yours that I was looking for.

GLWS and fare thee well.

You've been a wonderful ih8 friend. Thanks for all the years of positivity from you. I was always happy to read your posts and appreciated your reactions.

lol mentioned on The Smoking Tire! A little bit of a spotlight on a non-overlanding channel.

Great build. I plan on jumping in on the action Sunday if it doesn't get too out of hand. Lol. BAT seems to do that sometimes. As much as I want it at a good price, I hope you get exactly what you want for it as well. Great LC.

I think a lot of us are considering it. I feed this thought by making sure that I daily something that makes me smile (‘08 Sequoia on 37s as my personal gear rig, dog rig, camping rig, and /ski mountain biking rig) and don’t give up a rock crawler by fooling myself into what it takes to build another one.

I’m at a time of life now with kids in their 20’s who have less time for all of these things…but they come back around…

@COYS good luck, I haven’t been around all that much in recent years, looks like an awfully nice 80 series going to a new home .

Looks like you've got one guy who wants it pretty bad since he's placed four bids. 😆
GLWS. If I were shopping for a really NICE cruiser, it would be hard to find a better example.
I really owe the 80 ih8mud community a massive debt of gratitude. I seriously knew nothing (still really don't know much) and then this auction is happening many years later.

While I'm looking forward to the auction ending this Sunday, I'm semi-dreading the passing of the keys to the next owner. I hope to goodness it's not a used car dealer! lol

Thanks!

Sorry to see you sell, but no reason to leave!

I'm watching closely and ready to spur on your auction

I checked the status of the auction yesterday and seen the bid at that time was 22,500 and now it is close to 35000. Is that what you were expecting to get or?

But hopefully it goes to someone that will continue its legacy here on MUD>

Yeah, 2 guys really got going there. Doesn't make much sense to do that until the end. BAT always has a lot of action in the last 2 mins, that gets reset over and over and over. Lol. Great 80 going to a lucky buyer.

So for those who may wonder over from BAT for more info;

Here are some of the expensive parts to build a new engine, besides the short block and head. I will just assume it got new cams because who would ever put old cams in a new head!? I am also going to assume you did new timing chain and guides, me personally I do the gears in the timing case new too and the oil pump.

Did you put in a new MAF, new distributor, new IAC, ALL sensors, exhaust manifolds, new valve cover, EGR components, throttle cable, oil cooler, igniter, coil, and say low oil pan? All still available from Toyota and most not cheap. ALL new sensors alone not even counting TPS and IAC are well over a grand if OEM Toyota parts. New MAF is $500, new IAC is $500, new oil cooler (not just cover) is pushing $500.

How about the bolt ons? New starter, alt, a/c compressor, idler pulley? Depending on what you use for those parts, it can get expensive too. The Toyota starter we run on diesel’s for example is $800. OEM a/c compressor and clutch is not real cheap too.

I put all that and more into my 1FZ build I can say with confidence it is well over $20k in parts.

Cheers

As this is a tech forum, if anyone watched the driving video when the vehicle comes to a stop (engine idling, foot on the brake pedal, transmission in gear) the alternator needle drops to the horizontal position then as he accelerates the needle goes back up to where it normally would sit if putting out full voltage. IME that could be a simple fix (loose alternator belts) but the issue should be addressed IMHO. Still a nice truck.
