I am building a 60 Series comp rig for rock crawling and need some help with ideas on what driveline configuration to run. We have chosen to run a 5 litre v8 and th400 automatic gearbox which we have from a previous unfinished project and require a under drive or crawl box which can be mated up to the th400. Secondly we have a choice of running the original h55f transfer from the 60 series or we have a h150f from a 80 series a mate is wrecking. I have been told that the h150f is a stronger box but need to be able to mate the crawl box to it also. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Jason

what axles/tcase?

Honestly, start with a buggy for rockcrawling. A 60 is not a good base for a crawler.

Running toyota 60 series front axle and 80 series rear. Haven't decided if were running the h55f transfer or the h150f from the 80 series. Have been told that the 150f is stronger but don't know if you can get a crawl box to suit. Have been looking at the klune 4 -1 from high impact but haven't had much luck getting a response from them lately.

This.

Believe me... I know. :)

X3 ..

H55F it's a better overall tranny compared to the H150 and actually have better low gear ratio at 1st ..

I hate automatics, and it pains me to say this but: A slusbox makes crawling much easier, and simpler. Face it, we have only two legs, and it gets hard to work three pedals, especially in dealing with the steep slopes and tight spaces of a crawl. Parts for the TH400 are cheaper than dirt, and it's feasible to have two built for the price of a built H55, and keep the second as a spare, which mayb be a necessity for comp. work.

Were I in your position, looking to build a crawler, I'd do as Mace says, and steer clear of the 60, those are great rigs, but they don't offer the clearance a buggy would have. Crawlers are all about budget parts that you don't mind damaging, because you will.
D60 axles, Dana T-cases with aftermarket deep gears, TH400 with billet Torque Converter, and possibly even improved valvebodies, and a cheap motor, like an SBC
