I bought a 1995 HDJ80 for my diesel swap and am now parting out what I did not need. First on the chopping block is the engine/transmission/transfer case. The engine is the 1HDFT 24 valve turbo diesel and the transmission is the H151 5 speed. The transfer case is the 80 series case that came with this HDJ80. The truck had about 360k KM’s on it. Starts up and runs great even in cold weather. We have some videos of it running. Compression test could be completed early next week. Wiring harness not included and not available. This is already in the US and located at @SNLC shop. $9500 plus shipping.

24 volt or 12 volt donor vehicle?

24 volt starter and the rest of the truck is 12 volt. Batteries are in series not parallel for starting only.

So was all over town today trying to find an adapter that is 16mmx1.5. No luck. This is the OEM FT/FTE injector hole compression tester adapter I recently added to our kit. I went ahead and drilled the threaded end to suit a 1/8” NPT tap, then tapped it. Screwed in the 1/8” air fitting and we should be ready to go tomorrow.

Good thing is I can still get a 16mm adapter and use it how I want. For tomorrow though and this engine, this should work. Injector #1 is out and we are ready to go for tomorrow.

Alright guys, not the best news.

In case you don’t know, minimum is 356psi and a new FT is 498psi. This was a cold test, we also put some oil down them and tested too, numbers didn’t change much if at all. This leads me to believe it is valve and not rings. We were going to do a leak down test but John doesn’t want to spend any more money on it at this point.

In addition to this we found three of the rocker arm caps have this.

No idea how those caps cracked, truly. All I can think of is somebody was doing a head job and tried to force down the cam/rocker.

Again, what I see here is a bad head job done on it so you can figure at the minimum it’s going to need head work and probably a bottom end rebuild as well.

After discussing things with John, the new price on this combo is $5,000obo.

Cheers
