I think the Land Cruiser 250 was rushed...

Agreed that it was amateurishly done without any useful specifics. Even the YouTube yappers were ill prepared without much meaningful information.

They would have been better served releasing a tweet or insta video and then later offer full detail.
Toyota is hoping the name itself will sell

It is a pre-production vehicle meaning it was assembled for testing and not perfection. The fit and finish are irrelevant until you are sitting in one at your local car dealer and are able to make a rational decision if you want one.

Land Cruiser anniversary, to capture on the buzz and hype the Land Cruiser name generated in recent years in the US market.
There has been buzz and hype? In the US? Not sure about that. I’ve been daily driving Land Cruisers for 36 years and I hadn’t heard any buzz or hype.

Because, like the 2007 changes, they are — from Toyota engineering and product planning POV — mid-life /minor changes. The inherent vehicle/body/chassis has stayed the same.

The 7x is still manufactured outside of the TNGA-F platform logic that Toyota is imposing on the all of the other BOF platforms— and will remain so until it’s phased out.

My educated guess is that the 7x is in its last decade or so of life; Toyota will put an end to the platform within a decade— there will be a 50th anniversary of the vehicle platform and then it will be done.

The LC250 is a completely new model and coming to America…. That was the big deal with the Japan announcement.
I agree, I feel that we are definitely going to see the end of the 70x in the 2030s.
Regulations are getting stricter, especially in some of its biggest markets and they can't keep updating ( a almost 50 year product ) by the time the next major series of regulations reaches a new level.
It will be interesting to see what clean sheet they come up with after the 70.

I've noticed less of the engineering videos as well, with the GX launch we had some cool videos, same for the 300 launch.

It is supposed to enter production in November if the tech info is correct. Though I assume most of the super early ones will end up being 12.2023 production.
If no further delays happens..who knows these days.

So honestly from the date of debut to date of production isn't too long actually, but yes I did sense it rushed as well.

That and they are attempting to sell a vehicle to a market that is already flooded with options.....even in its own line up......all while ignoring the fact that Jeep/Ford Bronco sales exceed 250k units every year.......there's a huge demand for a vehicle in that segment and Toyota is totally ignoring it

Edit: And they also arent trying to force feed a trail rated prius on their customers.

I have a feeling this may be the start of a future LC range.

We may end up seeing more vehicles with the Land Cruiser name plate being sold, and compared to them the Prado is going to seem as real of a Land Cruiser as the 70 series.

They seemed to have hinted at it during the launch

Like that vehicle in the rear left They could call it compact cruiser ( it seems like the production version of the compact cruiser concept ) or whatever and it won't really matter, but if they actually call it Land Cruiser mini or something like that then that would make It part of the Land Cruiser family.

Same for the cross over on the rear right which looks like it has more ground clearance than the usual cross overs.
Could that be the first unibody Land Cruiser badged vehicle?
Crazy right? Could seem like they are going to dilute the brand but other manufacturers are doing it with legacy names too.

Are we going to call that weird scooter a land cruiser as well?

Land Rover has done this with Range Rover too.

I’m convinced that is a wrapped 2015 Audi Q7 in the back right. We are going places!

Big thing for me was the lack of a flat cargo floor. Looks exactly the same as the current gen GX whereas the GX videos I've seen show a flat floor. Some have speculated the battery is between the engine and transmission, and not under the cargo floor. Other markets get a third row, so perhaps it is simply value engineering for the NA market to have the lip.

I agree with some of the things here for sure.

For some reason, I’m not super bummed about not having a tailgate. You can still sit on the bumper protruding out, and I’m thinking even a slide out style platform/fold out shelf from a drawer system would provide plenty of space for cooking etc. not to mention it will also be quicker to open so instead of having to open four separate things (if running dual swing outs) you’ve got the hatch and tailgate combined into one step

I’m just glad the door doesn’t swing entirely to one side like my GX460. That thing is seriously annoying and provides zero shelter if it’s raining at camp not to mention also actually exposes more of the interior to rain if it is open due to where it cuts in on the roof.

I definitely wish the cargo floor was flat. Being able to install a sleeping platform and have good storage underneath is going to be extremely limiting. It would have been nice if Toyota had just pulled the spare out from underneath and put it on the back door (maybe that would look too much like a Defender) and reconfigure the battery position. Obviously, I am not sure how doable that truly would have been with the assembly processes in place and for serviceability/accessibility, but it certainly doesn’t seem crazy since they managed to squeeze the batteries under the back seats in the new Tacoma.

Also the volume knob with the larger display monitor definitely looks like a last second afterthought. I’ve seen some Prado interior pics where it isn’t there at all. Maybe they’ll get them, maybe not, but it certainly looks dumb and out of place not to mention doesn’t really give the passenger aux control when the driver will already have the volume control on the steering wheel.

Agreed. I’ve had a regular hatch on my 4Runner and the tailgate on my 200. As long as I can open the rear window, I’m good.

That was something I hated about the GX460, along with the tire on the door reducing rear visibility.

Hype? Fanfair? Glitz?
Amateurish? Rushed? Short time frame?

It is only the ownership experience over time that will determine how good a vehicle is.
Not the freakin' brochure or a stupid reveal commercial.

The only thing that has accompanied new 4x4 models in the last 10 years has been higher prices and fewer real offroad components/equipment (apart from the Grenedier which too has some shortcomings. IFS tho is not one of them).
The new LC, or 1886, or 1731, or whatever the hell they want to call it is no different.

This is largely due to the uneducated nature of today's buyers who, among other things, judge a vehicle only by the nature of it's reveal.

Just stupid.
