I need a paint shop recommendation. I am planning on starting this week fixing some of the rust problems on my 55. My plans (if this is possible) are to work on rust spots as time permits and rattle can paint my patches with paint mixed to match the factory original colors for my 55 (blue and white) so my paint doesn't totally mismatch until I can fix all the rust and get a new paint job. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone to mix some custom paint codes and put that paint into a rattle can? Is this possible? Any other recommendations?

Sounds like a pretty decent plan, you can get the rattle can paint done, I don't know where in Gvegas though but I'm sure someone will chime in. Keep me up with what your doing I'd be up for coming to lend a hand on some rust.

Sherman Williams does custom colors into rattle cans i think. I could be way off though...

I thought the same things......... but called sherman williams recently and they told me they don't do automotive paints

however any automotive paint supplier should be able to do if for you, but it can me pricey

good luck

Zero rust has limited colors but you won't find a better bottom coat if you're planning on repainting later and want to be sure any remaining rust doesn't bubble through later. I would seriously consider trying to find a color in their lineup that is "close" and not worry about being pretty in the mean time.

My $.02

I used Paintworld which you can find on the web. Sent them my kick vent and they matched the color. I got 2 cans, a pen, and a "kit" for some touchup for less than $100 shipped.

Very easy to work with and quick.

Haven't used it yet though... too cold.

Not All Sherman Williams stores do automotive paints. But they do make it and I have heard of stores who do it. I got some of Eastwoods version of por-15, rustbullet, etc. and painted over some of my rust as a temp solution, it helped slow it down, but didnt stop it, if you put it over bare metal I would certainly think that it would keep it away as a temp thing. They have 3 colors I think.

Also, ACE Hardware sells some "Rust Stop" paint in gallons and spray cans, when I used to work there (Newberry & Abbeville) We sold it to all kinds of farm guys who painted everythign with it. It seemed to be good stuff, but no personal feedback.

I know for sure some Sherman Williams stores do automotive paint. I used to work for a place in Thomasville, NC called Signature Signs, we made architectural signage and painted everything with high quality SW automotive paint. You may have to shop around. And if you pay anywhere close to $100 for 2 rattle cans and a few added bonuses, you're getting shanghaied bad. Call around to some various SWs...
