I have a 74 FJ55 and whenever it rains, I get a bunch of water running out behind the heater box. I posted before and someone said there is a seal inside the engine bay, where the hood seals. Could someone take a pic of this for me so I know where it goes, and if I could fab one, or if Ill have to buy one from Spector. Has anyone else had a problem with this? I know Ive also got a small leak around the windshield gasket. Is there anything to restore the old seal, or will I have to buy one of those too? I may just clear silicone it for a temp. fix. Last question. Is there anyplace cheaper than SOR to buy the door seals. $200 seems high to me, but maybe Im wrong. Could a guy match up the seal and buy it by the foot from say somplace like JC Whitney. I know I sound like a total cheap-ass, but Im in Nursing school full time for 3 more years, so $$ are tight. Thanks for any help. Hodag

I'll try to take a pic tonight, if I can figure out what you're talking about. I've only owned my FJ55 four 4 days!

You should ask you parts questions on the 55 mailing list: http://www.birfield.com/mailman/listinfo/fj55 Those guys know what's what. Apparently some of the seals are available from the dealer, some are not, and some are copiable with JC Whitney stuff. I don't know the details...

I don't have any really good pics ... but I think you're looking for the two rubber seals at the top in these pics...

Sorry for the poor quality...I can shoot some of mine tonight if you need more.

Here are two pics of mine. It is very simple - basically a dam that sends the water to the side. Mine are glued in. The first pic is so you can see the cross section.

Water Leak

This might be the seals your talking about. Mine are shot (PO painted over them) but are being replaced after I'm finished with painting.

thanks everyone, that was exactly what I needed. Im gonna try the adhesive backed close cell foam strips. Thanks again. Hodag

No need for me to post a pic, mine look just the same.

I am going to replace these 2 pieces and I found almost exact replicas in the summer catalog from JC Whitney. There is a 2 page section on weather stripping with photos

Part # comes from Whitney catalog #685R-04, part #SD818859T, 16 1/2 ft length
