Does anyone want to make me a bumper for it, or should I leave it in the pile with my rear storage compartment, my e-locker
rebuild kit, my spare emissions crap, and all the other stuff I haven't completed?

Maybe if I never attach it to the truck, I'll never need it?

Advice?

Ya, what he said about sink holes.........

BTW, if anyone would like a sexy, brand-new, never ever installed or even looked at too harshly Warn roller fairlead, I want to trade mine for a hawse-style one.

What are you looking for in a bumper? ARB style or cheap, basic and functional?

I need a fairlead.
I wonder if ken still has that huge bumper

I did sell that big ugly bumper, but when I get back from mexico I may have some more time off if you guys wanna build some bumpers for your rigs. sorry morgan, I only have a spare roller fairlead.

See you guys tonight!

I'm still on the fence about that.

I like the ARB, but hate the added weight and bulk. I want something which is going to block the wheels less than the ARB does.

Ken's bumper design is great. I was thinking about something like that, but with some hoops to protect the rad and lights.

or...

I kind of like the light Painless Fab tube bumper, although I would still want to protect the rad and lights...

Just a note about the bumper that's been posted there... it does not pass local bumper laws. If you're in an accident, you may not get the ICBC coverage you are looking for, and you're going to suffer more damage than you might like too.

AFAIK - your bumper must be at least 100mm in height and extend far enough to each side to protect the width of the passenger compartment. It's in the motor vehicle act regulations somewhere...

Hmmm.... good to know.

That was totally Stumpy's fault!!

I can't help it that my conversation is so engaging. Actually, I blame it on the guy who thought he was hitting the talk button on his radio, when he was actually hitting the annoying call button, so all we heard was beep beep beep, not "big hole" "big hole".

Max bumper height is 22" to the bottom of the bumper (for a "station wagon"). We just had to get a lifted cherokee through a vehicle inspection, and that was the number that they gave us.

Here is the bumper Travis Rankin made for my old 4Runner before he moved to the Mainland. it was incredibly beefy without being as bulky as an ARB or a Slee. It has a good amount of protection for the lights, radiator, and body corners. The expanded steel section was to protect the tranny and oil coolers while still allowing airflow. The front receiver was for a removable winch basket. On the Cruiser, that expanded steel/receiver section would be replaced with a winch plate for a permanently attached winch.

The only thing I didn't like about that bumper was that Travis used preformed angle sections, instead of custom bending the tube. You can't tell from the pics but the joins where the straight tube met the bends was a little cheesy-looking.

What we forgot to add was a licence plate mount. I had my front plate and commercial plate held on with zapstraps, which was lame.

What I did like what the great approach angle, the lack of coverage in front of the wheels, and the insanely unnecessary giant D rings :grinpimp: Also, the main horizontal section is 4" (just over 100mm) high, so I guess if what John says is true, then this bumper was technically up to code. Although, for reference, those were 33" tires, so I guess most of the bumper was far above 22" from the ground. Meh, I never had a problem from the good folks in blue.

Footnote: I love my Cruiser but I totally miss my 4Runner. I see it around town sometimes and I want to steal it - I even still have a key (not that one is needed).

One more for old time's sake. This was a bumper made by "Stout Equipment" in Arizona. They're no longer in business (which might have something to do with taking four months to ship an "in stock" bumper  ). Good bumper, though:

I remember when you brought that by for "show and tell" while the paint was still drying, so to speak.

It was a pretty neat set up that you had made.

I sold that truck to a guy named Barry, who drives a semi for Island Farms. He, in turn, sold it to a young guy in Sooke, and I still see it around from time to time, usually with a couple of surfboards sticking out the back. It's looking a little beaten-up, but it still has my "Motorhead" sticker on the tailgate!

Here is one I did for a guy with a 91 4 Runner

That's some great work, Jay. I like the "skirt" between the body and the bumper. Nice touch.
