I decided to paint this weekend

I am surprised that your garage didn't end up all blue...

maybe the low pressure? were these really large drops coming out?

(I don't know much yet about air spraying as you can tell, but planning to practice a bit)

Why are you gonna wax it? I had a buddy that was a body man for 30 + years and he never waxed anything. You said you were gonna clear coat it, didn't you? Just polish the clear-coat. You shouldn't need to wax, unless you were talking about waxing the old lady.... Then that's up to you.

nah...i'm not clear coating. Can't find a quart of clear enamel at ace or home depot. My requirements for the job were to get paint at one of those places. I am gonna wax tho so i can use my 12 dollar polisher i got from harbor freight. :) Oh...and i'm sure i'll put a little wax on the old lady, as suggested. hee hee....hey here is my latest. I'm waiting for some new hinges, a radiator, and some stainless screws from ccot.

Getting closer...

Well it has been a month and i've only worked on nights and weekends. I'm down to the last piece. I also had to put in a new radiator. But...I got new hinges and rubber pads so everything is nice and tight.

The grill work has taken the most time to strip and paint.

I'll get some pictures of it in the sunshine whitht the grill trim piece on. I primed it in white tonight after grinding the remaining paint flecks with a die grinder.

Thanks All

Well that's about it for making the paint job. Total cost was about $200 for gun, paint, masking, thinner, primer, sandpaper, wirewheels. It took two coats of primer and two coats of paint. The hinges were black rattle can. The color was matched to rustoleum harbour blue. That way, I can touch up easily with rattle can if need be.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I've never painted a car before and always wanted to try. I encourage anyone to go for it. It really isn't that hard, and just figure it is a $200 lesson. It rather f' it up than have a cheap paint shop mess it up. And hey...there are always sandblasters that can get you to square one again, if need be.

The next time I try, it will be a base coat clear coat with real auto paint. That is going on my Ford focus. Not that I'm unhappy with this one, just want to try it all I guess.

Good for you, looks great man! You know that was the "I am going to try to look cool, but inside I am smiling like a little kid"... shot. :D

Came out really nice, would you do everyone a favor and post up in a few months on how it is weathering and holding up?

Seats

Yep exactly...thanks for kudos! They are factory seats recovered in marine vinyl.

Looks great, nice job!!! did mine last summer with the rattle cans (so I can touch up when required, which is now!!)
Suprised you didn't have much overspray, I had alot with the cans. Made a bit of a mess but the paint turned out great

What he said. Any follow-up?

Just curious if the paint is still holding up 4 years later?

Yea, give us a longevity report.
