I am considering buying a hzj79.
Seller is telling me that is has permanent AWD with the option of traditional 4x4?

Is this really a thing? Would be really cool...!
It is a 2011 model
VIN jtflb71j8b8027319

I’ll never say never with Toyota, but I don’t think the 70 series were ever full time 4wd from factory.

That said, is he meaning it has drive plates instead of hubs up front? That still doesn’t make it full time 4wd, it just means you don’t have to get out and lock hubs.

Parts diagrams based on that VIN show a traditional split transfer case with either drive flanges, manual hubs or dual mode auto hubs. Unless it has had an 80-series transfer case and rear axle swap it will be part time 4wd.

Never saw a 70 series in the middle east with locking hubs, FWIW. Actually, I never saw a Land Cruiser of any model in the middle east with locking hubs.

Hello,

As mentioned above, 70 Series are available with part time 4WD only.

I understand there are full time 4WD modifications available in places like Australia and South Africa.

Either the seller does not understand what full time 4WD is or the truck is a conversion. A closer look is necessary.

True. I am actually driving around in Oman right now in our 75 series.
All the 79 series here does not have locking hubs.

They do however all carry camels in the back 🛻🐫😉

Never hurts to have an alternate mode of transportation. 😊
