Hi Everyone,

I visited an HZJ73 that is for sale local to me today. I noted a switch that was unmarked and was wondering if it could be identified. It is in the same location where I understand the differential lock is supposed to go, but instead there is this left-center-right switch. It also has this red light next to it.

Thanks

Truthful answer...who knows.

Auxiliary lights?
Alarm?
auxiliary power source?
Not so hidden kill switch?
mad max supercharger switch?

on these old cruisers you always have fun guessing what interesting things the Previous Owner wired in.

Any outside pictures of the whole rig?

curious what the asking price is?

go on and give it a flip! take a walk around the vehicle and see if anything turns on/off/any motors start running. Not likely a aux fuel tank due to the size of the vehicle, but you never know.

Was hoping it might be a more common thing. Dealer didn't seem to know much about it or the rest of the vehicle so I was mostly poking around on my own. I didn't have much time to investigate it further, but when I asked the dealer said it might be for lights or something. No additional lights on the vehicle besides the main headlights and turn signals, etc. Would it be a winch operator? Only other thing I can think of. Not too concerned since the condition of the vehicle wasn't as good as the pictures showed, which I expected. Just wanted to bring this up for the sake of learning but it seems like there's not really a common alternative to the dif lock switch.

Thanks for the input everyone

Hood mounted paint ball gun for when someone says " hey you are on the wrong side of the vehicle"?? ..... Thinking of installing one on my truck :hmm:

Toggle switch.
Seriously, it could be anything. As with all wiring and switches installed by PO's , its need to be investigated. If its doing nothing, the power wire should be removed.

Is it unreasonable to ask for the import sheet when looking at these Land Cruisers for sale? I just reached out to the seller of this vehicle for the import sheet and was met with quite a rude response.

Sorry, meant Auction sheet. The one that details everything they review before it goes up for auction.

The seller let me know they have it previously, but basically told me today that I have enough info already to make an offer (but not as nice).

No, just trace the wire. It's just like @roscoFJ73 said, it could be anything. It will be rather clear since its most likely non-loomed, bare wire snaked around, look in the engine bay on the firewall, the wires likely pop through there.

Ah...well, if he already said he has it, I can’t see why he won’t show it to you. He’s not obligated to I suppose, but it doesn’t speak well of his integrity that he won’t.

Will he allow you to have the vehicle inspected by a third party mechanic? If not, and you’re not comfortable with what you know about it’s condition, then perhaps it’s time to move on.

For sure, I already have. I don't want to deal with someone like that. I was just wondering if asking for the auction sheet was unreasonable/bad etiquette. This vehicle is located in Bellingham MA, so if anyone is considering it I would not recommend it.
