Being 5'8'' ,you take notice when being on the shorter side is a big plus, especially when your in the back:D

I once slept in the back of a honda civic, not the back seat but in the hatch, oh and there were 3 other people in the car as well:flipoff2:

Joel.

Hello,

Back in my field days, sometimes I had to sleep in the driver's or passenger's seat of a Toyota Hilux, catching a few z's until the well was ready for me and my crew to get to work in.

We would also sleep a couple hours in that truck while going to location in the middle of the night. Those drives were long, six to eight hours on unpaved roads; some trucks had no power steering nor A/C. We would pull over and try to sleep; being on a Hilux front seat doesn't help much when there are five people aboard: you cannot recline it. And the heat... Ditto for the Toyota Dyna.

Back then I was used to sleep in tight places; you got some rest but the body was aching.

Surprisingly, I have had a few good catnaps in my Cruiser's passenger seat. I recline it, get my pillow and I am good to go. Sometimes a blanket helps. This is usually after enjoying some solitude in some remote spot. Enjoying solitude was one reason to get a Cruiser in the first place, but that is another story...

I am 5'11'' and a Land Cruiser is one of the few non-American trucks in which I can sit comfortably, at least in the front seats. I don't know if you guys have noticed it, but you can sit straight on a Cruiser, your knees level with your lap, or barely above. In most other cars, knees are way up, and this is unconfortable, at least to me. It must have something to do with back pain.

As for the back, mine doesn't hurt after driving my Cruiser. It does in all the other cars/trucks I have driven, although the suspensions are softer.

The foot rest does help on long trips: this is a feature I miss when driving other cars.

I remember Grandpa complaining about not being able to sit straight in cars other than his good old 40. I thought he was exaggerating, but time has proven him right. And he slept much like Wayne did.

Yes ,I have always like the no nonsense, straight back driving position in a landcruiser. Its like a real truck, none of that reclining lounge room comfort bull****:D
You always have a good view of the road ahead, whether on or offroad;)

Once I had this stupid idea of trading the 73 for 95 Jeep Cherokee wagon (Im not sure what they call it in N America. I jumped into the drivers seat and it was like the top of the door sill was level with my shoulders. It couldnt have been that bad ,but it sure felt claustrophobic after the 73 series:grinpimp:
I remember the salesmans face(toyota dealer) as he walked towards me,like he was wondering how he could convince me it was good look LOL

I guess you are going to like this.

Just came back from an unscheduled (and urgent as always) field trip. Four hundred something kilometers in the passenger's seat of a Hilux truck, knees well above my lap, and my back is killing me. Nothing like a Cruiser.

Your knees are way up in a Jeep Cherokee. Passable for going to the grocery store and back, nothing else. Try an unpaved road or offroad: no matter how you adjust the seat, at the end of the day legs and back are sore. Ask me how I know.

back in the day i had the opportunity to drive a YJ jeep. at the time i thought "cool, i get to drive a brand new jeep instead of my 15 year old beater Land Cruiser 40"
i walked up anticipating the joy of no rattles, sound deadner, a nice stereo, comfortable seats. i climbed in, sat for a couple minutes, climbed out and told the owner "sorry, i can't drive that."
"why"
"i have more leg room and better seats in my daughters Suzuki Samurai"

i was a bit underwelmed with the entire vehicle.

the other one i am shocked with is the H3 hummer knock off. i can't sit straight in it.

i will take the Pajero or Land Cruiser for comfort any day...

Mattias,
are you sure this is a recent picture?
Allthough it looks as if it has a non Dutch licenceplate this must be an old picture.
Or is it just an example of the kind of rig you want to buy?

This rig belonged to a friend of mine (you even can read his name just below the mirror) and he totalled his rig over a year ago.
(You can see him in his rig on a trip to the Kola Peninsula we did in 2005, as an example see THESE pages.)
He stopped on a hilltop, forgot to apply the parking brake, left the rig and it rolled down a hill for about 300 meters before crushing nose on into a firm tree, a very firm tree.
He has allways been very keen on his rig and wanted to keep it but it was really beyond repair, he told me. I never saw the rig after his mishap.
AFAIK he sold the remains to a s*c*rap yard. Bought another one.
If you want to buy it, get it well inspected !!!

This is an imported car to sweden, thanks so much for the info! Won't buy it!

I'm in other words looking for a HZJ74 from 2006 or newer. Do they come with antispinn? Also, where can I buy them? They don't sell new in sweden, and the car must be at least 6 months old to import it to sweden... :crybaby:

Ie; Where are there good used but new HZJ74 in plenty to import?

must be 6 months old...
want to move to Canada? 15 years old
want to move to USA? 25 years old.

i would LOVE to be able to import a 6 month old vehicle!!

2001 for 32000 euro?!? damn, those are expensive.

No, I don't want to move to canada nor USA. No offence. :)

Seems expensive, yes - the only HZJ74 (even thought the link say HZJ71) I found for sale...

just a suggestion,
i import them and enjoy the units i find but if the task isn't something you enjoy then it is best to purchase local or nearby and have no stress

Tell me the difference - thought the last number only was about enginechoice, ie 71 is petrol, 74 diesel..?

No, 70/71 is short wheel base, 73/74 is mid/medium wheel base (76/77 are long wheel base, 75/78 are longer, 79 is super long).

The distance between front and rear wheels is different, SWB 70/71 is shorter, MWB 73/74 is longer.

Visually, the SWB 70/71 has the rear wheel arch coming down to just behind the door, while the MWB 73/74 has a gap between the door and the rear wheel arch.

SWB 70 and MWB 73 have leaf spring front suspension, while the newer SWB 71 and MWB 74 models have coil spring front suspension, among other differences such as light/weaker gearboxes and diffs on the newer models.

The engine type is designated by the prefix, for example HZJ means 1HZ diesel and FZJ means 1FZ petrol.

or if the swb or mwb has leaf spring front but the swb is a 71 the 1 means it has a turbo same as the 73 if its a turbo d with leaf front its a 74
The 76 and 77 is a lwb 5/6 door wagon the 75 or 78 series is a lwb with high roof and 3/4 door aka troopy

Another thing to note on seating position in a 70's series is seat placement seems to vary depending on market as well as vehicle. Compared to my JDM Bj71 the Canadian BJ70 has way more leg room front and rear, obviously the cargo area suffers.

Their is even about 1" less room on my JDM BJ71 then on my JDM BJ74. When jumping back and forth driving the two vehicles, I kept hitting my knee on the plastic cover on the bottom of the steering column on the 71, until I eventually smashed it to pieces.
