I'm in the process of rebuilding a couple of smog pumps and decided to get a press. If I'm going to buy a press, then I want one that will support rebuilding my stock tranny and transfer case. To those of you with experience rebuild theses items is this unit from Harbor freight going to meet my needs?

Hey,
The only problem I can see is the throat depth, might be a problem for some projects, get the "h" frame from Harbor, I have that model. works fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess my two main concerns are the throat depth and the Ram to base height. I am also looking at the bench version of the Dake, if I can get away with a 16" vertical clearance. If I have to go to the floor model then I would like to know how much vertical clearance is need to press out bearings, races and seals on the tranny. Rebuilding the transfer should not be an issue for any of these units.

The Dake
Width between uprights - 16.75"
Width between table channels - 3"
Minimum ram to table - 4"
Maximum ram to table - 16"
Ram travel - 6"
Base - 23"x18"
Height - 36"

The pictures below are the floor model and bench model.

I would go with the Dake unit over the HF unit shown for one big reason: the more 'table' area you have the easier it is to position larger objects and the support plates needed to press out bearings and such. A T-case is much bigger than the HF unit table area and it would be harder to support properly.
