I was helping a friend - or so I thought

- and we "cleaned" his VAF with some rubbing alcohol from a spray bottle. I'm used to MAFs (I have a '95 80 series) which I usually clean now and again, and just handle gently. We let it sit out in the sun to dry out, reinstalled and now have a no start. We're working on sourcing a used/rebuilt one - is there anything to do to save the old one? Has anyone cleaned one and not destroyed it?
Since the VAF on the 93/94 were only used those two years, used ones are becoming VERY hard to come by, and they will soon become Unobtainium,
The smart thing for any owner of a 93/94 to do, would be to watch the classified ads here on MUD, and when one comes up for sale, JUMP ON IT so you have a spare,
I've also read that Toyota used the same VAF meter on the 91 to 95 MR2 sports cars, but ONLY on the cars equipped with a turbo charged engine, and Toyota didn't import a ton of those,
I've seen new VAF meters listed for sale on EBay for the 93/94 Land Cruisers, but from the reviews I've read it looks like they are made in China and don't work very well,
The other, and best option you have, is to have your broken one repaired, but in this case you will have your truck down for a few weeks while you wait for your VAF to be returned from the repair shop,
Below is a link to a shop that repairs these meters,
Their current price as of 9/3/2024 to have a meter repaired/rebuilt is $365 dollars
