A great example of FAQ misjustice is that more of Bill's (PHOTOMAN) stuff isn't on there.

Child's play. I'm the first to add to the FJZ80 Wiki!

BAM, take that :flipoff2:

I fixed the FJ Cruiser section AND made the 3FE section. :flipoff2:

Now lets get this thing into the FAQ before it's thrown into CHAT.

Lane, I feel a tear of joy trickling down my cheek. One of my stupid little HOW-TO's actually made its way onto your sig line!!!!!!!!

I think I deserve a beer now dammit.

BTW which route did you go? Did you install within the dash or mount it just behind the grill?

I have been very very pleased with mounting it in front of the grill now. AND now I don't have to tear open the dash to change the battery. Although it wasn't much of an issue to change it if needed.

I went behind the dash. I used an old 4Runner antenna switch (UP and DOWN buttons), which I'll be swapping for a single-button switch today.

Gotta run to the local pick-n-pull.

All you have to do is convince Romer to do the mod to his truck and then it will be guaranteed to get in the FAQ. :D

I'm surprised Romer hasn't already done this  :flipoff2:

You absolutely could!

But I'm not :D

IF the slightly reduced remote does wind up bothering me enough I will look into extending its range. I'm sure there is some type of built in antennae that I can tap into and extend its range.

or by increasing voltage! say 12v?! ok, probably fry it, but 3v -> 12v would be 4x range! (hehehe - jk).

it might handle it, but likely not. Still a sweet mod. Even got me over here from the 60's forum to check it out.

nicely done.

I think it helps adding it to my sig line. :flipoff2:

I do have to remove some of the crap in there tho

And although I didn't mention it in my original report, I DID actually try it with direct 12v, it killed the remote.

But I still have it in the same location at the front of the truck and its still working flawlessly. :D

I read you post. Then I went and got a beer and read it again. I'd give it a 9.95. The highlight of my evening thus far.

My remote takes a little tiny 12v battery, Maybe you can find a universal or replacement that uses 12v.

if only my cruiser fit in the garage....

Nice job. I did something similar to a Supra I once had.

Perhaps we could come up with another method for housing the FAQ so that a few chosen ones could add things to it instead of just one person. There are plenty of posts I would expect to see in it that aren't.

Or we could start a thread to nominate threads for the FAQ thread. :)

There are too many, I kinda already gave up. I'm actually surprised this got traction again.

I love it! the :princess: and I are looking into purchasing a house in the next few months, and this is a project she will hate me for at the time... but love me for in the end! I hope...

There is something that is in place but it hasn't got much momentum. Woody set up a wiki and anyone can contribute. If we had someone that was motivated and somewhat organized, they could get us started on an 80-Section wiki that could be an excellent resource without all the clutter we have in linked FAQ threads.

When you read the 80-Series FAQ, someone will do a good write-up then there are 100 questions and ataboys and tangents and who-knows-what-else. Unfortunately those looking for information have to wade through all the extraneous stuff to get to the few posts that have good information and images and FSM pages and torque specs, etc.

It would be great if someone would come up with a model FAQ thread that covered a particular "how-to" topic.... say an oil change and lube. It should have plenty of pictures, a list of tools needed, step-by-step instructions (with torque specs for reassembly) and the tips-and-tricks that others have suggested that maybe the original guy did not think of when he did his project. Once we have the model in place, everyone would have a template they would use to add their project to the wiki. TPTB could enforce the template and others could update the wiki with additional information and pictures.

So.... are you volunteering? :D

This is a must for anything maintenance on our trucks. But how does that work for the mods?

I'll have to think about that but probably something like this:

80-Series
.... Buyers Guide
....... How to check out a used 80
....... Differences between years
....... Differences between LC and LX
.......
.......
.... Routine Maintenance
........Oil Change
........Coolant flush
........Brake pad replacement
.......

.... Repairs
........ Fix EGR System
........ Replace HG
........ Repair leaking front crank seal
........ Replace alternator brushes
........
........

.... Upgrades
........ Over-the-top Battery cables by NLXTACY
........ Installing a snorkle by George
........ Regearing (5.29s) by Nay
........ Regearing (4.88s) by Bear80
........

A good place to start would be to flesh out a good outline and getting guys familiar with editing and adding changes to a wiki.
