I upgraded to LED low beam and LED high beam headlights this weekend. So far, I am extremely happy with the light output.

But I do have one problem, the low voltage for the daytime running lights is not high enough to work my LED headlights. So when the headlight knob is turned off, they want to blink once every 10 seconds or so.

Is there a relay or fuse that I can pull to disable the daytime running lights or does someone sell a kit to enable the daytime running lights to work properly?

or unplug the bulbs? Only Canada needs those things anyway.

Unless I am mistaken, I think it uses the same bulbs as the high beams bulbs. It just runs them at a lower voltage.

Thanks for your reply J1000

I tried to install Techstream about 2 years ago and could not figure it out the crack thing.

I even offered to buy a portable computer from people on this site. So far, no takers. So I have been using a iCarsoft CR Pro scanner but, it would not let me turn off the running lights.

That's exactly how it works. The lower voltage comes from a resistor and disconnecting it turns off the DRL system. Open the hood and you'll find it on the passenger side fender just forward of the AHC reservoir. It's in a small metal box with ventilation holes. Disconnect the 2 wires and DRL's stay off.

Thank you Hankinid, I will give it a try tonight!

Don't forget to place a note, or mark something that you disconnected something. You may forget in the future and spend $ just to find out it was just a wire connection! If anything, the next owner should know, that would be a cruel joke. heh. I used Techstream on a windows 10 machine and it emulated the Windows XP so that I could run the techstream software.

I wrap the connector with red vinyl tape and add a red cable tie so the tape stays on.

My 2002 LC 100 has DRL where the high beam bulbs are in series (6 V DC over each bulb), no resistors. Only when you turn on the high beam both bulbs get 12 V DC. Yesterday I disconnected the ground from DRL relay #3 (pin 3 in the six prong connector, WHT/BLK). This took care of the DRL, but now the high beam indicator glows when the lights are not on. When the lights are on, it works correctly. Need to figure out how to fix this new issue...
I needed to disconnect DRL so I can change the high beam bulbs to LEDs.

Disconnect the box like as described in post #6 on this thread.

The high beams are in series in all 100s, for daytime running lights. It's not half voltage though, but it doesn't matter.

It's possible you pulled the wrong wire.
Probably likely.
There wouldn't be a ground for the daytime running light circuit if you did, and they wouldn't light at all until you pulled the stalk and gave it that other ground.

Edit, OHHHH you said high beam indicator, as in, on the instrument panel.
In the wiring books for the LXs it explains exactly how the instrument panel indicators are triggered. It changes throughout the model years. 3 times I believe in the LX.

The reason I know that is
there's a harness I make to alter the path of the DTRL to be parallel instead of series, Lou sells it with his LED high beams for LX and LC all years.

I wish I knew that yesterday. I went and built my own harness with a relay and new sockets for high beams, everything works 100% but took me three hours plus $60 in parts.

As mentioned earlier, just use Techstream. You also get the value of having Techstream to check your AHC pressures, among a myriad of other things, for an LX.

Do you remember which two wires?

On my '99 LX I just added a switch where I could turn the DRL's on or off. Don't know if the wiring is the same for other year models.

I'm running Stedi Copperheads in both my high and low beam positions. If I recall correctly (from another thread and mentioned a couple of posts above) I just cut the red/blue wire under the steering column. I was going to de pin it but my patience ran out and there was enough free wire to splice it again if I ever need too. I also have a 99 (LC).

Hey Flintknapper where does one find this fuse panel on the 100 Series?

Thanks!

If your interest is in disabling the DRL you won't need to access the fuse panel, just temporarily remove the connector (under the steering column) and address the one wire associated with that circuit and plug the connector back in.
