Hi all, just had an easy question about taking the parking brake cable off the parking brake drum.I am pulling my 69 F engine out w/the tranny&tc and just have a few more things to do to be ready.Looks like I have to take the drum brake off, then the shoes.I also have not disconnected the clutch yet,any pointers?I have read through the Haynes manual&my F eng.manual.Just says to detach the clutch release fork spring, then remove the release cylinder from the engine bracket.
I am taking my time, getting to know my cruiser again, spending some quality time with it.It's fun wrenching on this rust bucket.A little therpy for a stressed out Dad with 2- little kids(ages 5 & 8)and a cool wife :princess:that lets me wrench whenever I want(yea Right!)No just kidding she is way cool!
I will have more ?'s,but I will figure it out.Spend way to much time on this computer when I should be out working on the 40!!!!!!!!!! Thanks,John:wrench::beer::wrench::beer:

the spring on the fork is the slave cylender, follow the hose/line down from the clutch master and you'll see it. should be 2 bolts holding the slave onto the bellhousing, I think, wire up out of the way.

the park brake, remove the drum and there are 4 bolts that hold the backing plate onto the rear of the transfer, remove the bolts and wire out of the way...drain transfer oil, as some may leak out when the drum is removed.
or remove the pin on the assembly above the gas pedal and the 2 bolts out of the firwall and leave the cable attached to the transfer and remove with the engine trans combo.

Got em' both, clutch was real easy. The only pain there was the colum shift linkage. That shared a bolt w/the slave cylinder, got that out of the way.The parking brake drum nut was really on there.I set the brake, found some good leverage w/my socket wrench&pipe from my floor jack.Got the nut off released the brake, took the drum/shoes off, then got to to cable!
Hardest part for me today was the tranny shift linkage on top of the tranny, one nut up there just would not come off.You had to hold a 9mm open end,w/a 12mm socket on a long extension.Sucker kept slipping off.I wanted to acess it from the top but,I had the tranny hump cover almost all the way off.All the bolts were off(including the 2-under the gas tank, grinded those off from underneath)Now the tranny cover is just sitting there till I pull out the heater& maybe a seat.I just don't want to pulll the gas tank off also.
Last thing today was the header bolts, they were comming off easy.I just don't know if i want to keep them? The F engine I am putting in has the stock manafold, well see.I will post up a new thead about that.
So the old engine is pretty much ready to pluck out of there tommorow, well see how it goes!:beer::wrench:
