ummm ARB won't strengthen the housing itself and that is the weak point of the small front center unit.
the electric HOUSING is stronger than the open one.

whats the difference between the locker and non locker housings for the increased strength?

the webbing design itself.
the open has 2 scrawny chunks of cast holding it together. the elec has a much beafier casting design.
i will see if i can find some pics to compare.
when the open breaks it is usually the casting between the ring gear mounted cast and the pinion casting. those 2 pieces of cast crack under the pressure.

If you want strength then build up a 9.5 in for the front , unless you need the high pinion then you have to use a e locker for strength.

when I minced My small front diff it just chewed the gears of both crown wheel and pinion befor the cast or is that what you mean

aahhh your talking about the carrier cool, when you get pics put them up.

Another option for a large front end, what about a hi pinion ford 9'' in the cruiser housing? They pretty much have the same mounting depth, could re-drill the flange, dont know about the axels and width. One car I looked at buying ran ford 9''s front and rear in cruiser housings with a FF rear.

Good ideas, but if I just want to put bifs on the axle , wich ones would be the ones that work for the hi 8¨? I belive there are no inner axles from Bobby .

I talked to Bobby longfield about the inner toyota axles for the hzj79, he said he doesnt make them because he doesn't need to - they are strong enough. He said the only reason someone would need stronger inners is if they ran tires over 39 inches, and if under and you break them then it is the driver and not the axles.

Thanks Louis for the info , I also a doubt of the birfs that work for that the toyota front 8¨ that came for the 73 series Venezuela version , 30 or 27 splines?
thanks

modern 7* series birfs ( from 8" HP reverse ) are the same as in the 80 series . ? thought they are bit smaller ? ( in the bell diameter )

I can't confirm or deny that, but I do know that guys in oz use the 80 series longfield birf in the 79 series with a slight modification at the spline end.

Slightly different birf, the 79 series birf with the lock out plates (on monst mine trucks) will not fit the 79 series locking hub, same number of splines but just different enough to be a pain in the ass - ask me how I know. But, the locking hub 79 series birf is almost the same as the 80 series, and I have heard of guys putting the 80 series hub and knuckle on the 79 series to get the 6 lugnut pattern.
