Search was fruitless...

I have a Lexus battery in my '97. The year and month are not punched out.

I pulled the battery and found the following stamped on the front of the case: 1 C 0 2 B T F A

I can't tell if the second figure is a zero or an O.

On the bottom, in a circular pattern, are the numbers: 95 96 97 98 99 and then what looks like another number that is scraped off (there is space for another number, but there is only scrapes).

This would lead me to think this battery is perhaps from 2000. It seems odd that an 84 month Lexus battery would be replaced in three years, but you never know. No way to tell if the scraped area was supposed to be the first or last number, but it can't be a '94 battery in a '97 (at least I sure hope not  )

Any ideas? If the battery is 6 or more years old, I might replace it now as I am going deer hunting in northern Wisconsin in late November and it can get below zero up there even that early (been there, done that).

tia,

Is it a Japanese battery or a replacement battery?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the LX450s came with the 84 month Lexus-branded battery. Mine came with the same trusty Japanese Panasonic that the Landcruisers did. So I'd guess yours is not the original battery that came with the truck. I know this isn't exactly what you asked about, but hope this helps!

Front label says:

The battery case does have a made in USA stamp on the bottom.

(ps - thanks for taking my parts order this morning Dan)

That data point helps...I am leaning toward this being a replacement battery.

Thanks!

imho if you are concerned it is better to err to the side of caution and bite the bullet, better by far than getting stuck out there.

I have only owned the truck 2 years...if the battery is three (and it is guaranteed for 7), I want to know!

In general, I agree with what you are saying. If I cannot determine the age, I will change it out prior to my trip.

I am hoping there is a way to know for sure.

That is a replacement battery.

Look on the top of the battery case. There should be a code branded into the top that would look something like "J6BL". The first two digits indicate the month and year the battery was made. In the example above the battery was made in October 2006, "J" being October and "6" being 2006. January is represented by "A" and so-on.

I found something I had not seen earlier...right above the positive post: "F1MA"

Looks like June 2001.

Thanks Dan.

Correct, June 01 manufacture date. Batteries are usually installed within about 6 months of that date, but not always. The 84 month warranty is a pro-rate after 24 months. 25-48 months is a 50/50 split and for 49-84 months the customer pays 75% and Toyota 25% of the cost of a replacement.

In order to process a warrany claim you will need to provide the original purchase invoice.

If you figured out which dealer sold it could a copy be obtained?

It would depend on how that dealer archives information.
