How Often Do You See This............???

Right sided version as well.

One thing I don't understand is that there is some kind of solenoid in the LX lower tailgate that I can hear actuating but have no idea what it is doing. At first I hoped that the lower tailgate may have a powered close like the one on the 2014 Range Rover I was considered. It apparently is not. Any idea what the solenoid is doing?

The lower tailgate does have a assistive powered close (lx570) Sounds like yours may be broken?

How does the powered tailgate work? When I have the lift gate up and the tailgate down I hit the close button on the lift gate. If this were a new Range Rover the tailgate would raise up under power and click shut, then the lift gate would lower automatically and lock shut. All I get on my LX570 is a warning beep. I looked in the owners manual but saw no instructions.

Is that the way it is supposed to work or am I doing something wrong?

I think it works like the soft close doors on large sedans. If you softly close the lore tailgate it will pull itself shut.

1st you need to make sure the "power door button" is depressed.
When the clam shell hatch is opened, you need to lift the lower tailgate until it's almost shut and the power assist will grab the lower tailgate. Once that is complete, you push the button on the upper tailgate and the top tailgate will shut automatically.

I don't have time to wait for the electric motor to work I just open and close it like I do with my LX470. I do notice that after I close it the electrical motor secures/locks it at least that is what it sounds like.

Knowing the Lexcruiser has this makes me somewhat chortle to myself.......

Well that's pretty much worthless compared to the Range Rover system. I should be able to touch the close button and walk away. Otherwise why complicate it all? I can lift the tail gate.

I think I've figured out the reason why Lexcruisers require premium unleaded fuel.

Thats what I am getting at...

Take the bolt out, rotate the cable along its axis 1/2 a rotation, and put the bolt back in. This should overcome the cable's natural tendency to twist in the direction of the winds.

Reluctantly tried your advice a few weeks ago. It only made matters worse. The cable started binding up and prohibiting latching. Kind of caused a scuffing of the rubber jacket too........

So

Ordered a new one from my dealer. Called up and said "port side tailgate cable please sir!"

Installed this past Monday. Damn thing is beautiful and works perfectly.

Well crap.

Mine does this ever so often and for some reason more so in the winter. No big deal.

My '08 did this once. Interesting issue. I'd think the half turn idea would solve it. Hmmm. I'd better study this.
