Welcome to MUD.
You live, and you learn. I did.
You can post the meme of me. I’m an idiot, we all know itI can promise you that it ain’t the worst thing that’s happened around here, but it’s pretty bad. Hell, one time I got drunk, put a head gasket on upside down, and warped the head two days later.
@Somebodyelse5 has broken all sorts of stuff - ask him about his new diff cover clock![]()

Dang son is this real or memorex? Thanks for the love guys. Appreciate it. Yes I did the spark plug seals and all while I was there.
The reason I did not change the start is BECAUSE IT WORKED. This was already a expensive swap, and did not want to tack on another couple hundred bucks. Taking the intake back off later to swap the starter won't be a big deal. Also this 2UZ has nearly 500,000kms on it, those valve cover bolts where a bitch.
AND YES everything was torqued to spec. You can see it in the timelapse. Sorry I don't show every step in detail for you keyboard warriors.
I replaced the bottom injector seals, because they looked toast. The tops LOOKED fine, so once again to save money I opted not to, obviously I should have. There is a million what ifs here. AND VERY EASY to point out in hindsight.

Yes. Bolts will break due to corrosion (not being too tight). The lower side bolts where threaded are open on the bottom side, letting dirt/road salt create a solid grip. Recommend taking a torch to heat the bolt/head if any resistance. Carefully wiggle bolt head loose/tight/loose if you can get movement, heat - spray with penetrant. I broke 3 bolts (and I am very experienced with corrosion - first job was an outboard mechanic). Good news if you break a bolt, it breaks at the head so now you can pull off the cover and use heat/penetrating oil and wiggle it free with vise grips. You can access some of the bolts from the wheel well (just be careful with the torch, or you too will have a “toyota on fire” - I wrap areas around with a wet towel.ima bout to take on the valve cover gaskets and as fun as this was to watch im not excited about breaking bolts. has anyone else broken bolts on these covers?
Yeah - don’t do do what @Somebodyelse5 did and beat on the diff cover. Keep your tools on the bushing. This looks like my arsenal with regards to removing my front diff. Is there... something I should know?
