Hi all

Just inspected my coils and one has oil on the tip

So far from research I’m thinking it’s either spark plug torque or valve gasket seal

Could anyone tell me the best move forward to repaid this please?

Should I replace the spark plug and inspect it in a month?

Is there and kind of product I can use to easily block the leak or any tips/tricks/know how to repair easily?

Is it a bad problem and is it a bard job or easy?

I’m technically minded but not done this repair before.

Thank you
Chris

You might want to start by bandaging that finger!

My guess would be spark plug tube seal. Usually loose spark plugs will show more "cooked damage" than that...

You will need to replace the valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals, and apply FIPG in the correct spots.

In the meantime you could try AT-205 reseal... but that oil looks like it might be pooling in the spark plug tube?

Might not hurt to do a power steering flush as well. ;)

Tip: Use air pistol, to blow out spark plug tube, before removing spark plugs.

Clues:
Is tip of coil boot oily to the touch, or glazed on.
Is there oil in bottom of tube.
Can oil be seen seeping from rubber seal, at top of spark plug tube.
Was spark plug loose.
What does spark plug look like.

Hey guys

I’m busy for the next few days so have cleaned and tightened it for now to inspect on Sunday

When I go back to look I will do as you’ve advised and come back to this thread with an update

Thank you!

Spark plugs tube seals bad. Replace spark plugs and valve cover gaskets at the same time too. Pretty straight forward job. Like 2001LC said, I would blow out any residue in the spark plugs tube before removing spark plugs. I would use shop rag to absorb as much oil in the tube as possible before removing spark plugs. And also replace coils the same time if it hasn't been done too, save time and labor in the future.
