How much does differential and transfer case fluid change usually cost? (1 Viewer)

Look at this way though. The next time you do it yourself, it will be cheaper. The next time the dealer does it, it more than likely will be more expensive.
I have been re-reading your comment several times and I think I'm going to take on this challenge myself...perhaps not the transfer case fluid but the differential fluid.

Anyone know where I can purchase the RAVENOL Gear Oil DGL 75w85 GL-5 LS in 1 gallon container instead of purchasing seven 1 liter container?

I only see them selling liters. They sell it as a maintenance change kit. Both differentials and transfer case fluids. If you can do the differentials, you can do the transfer case. Zero difference in the grand scheme of things.

I was thinking that since I'm going to purchase the Motive Products 1735 Power Fill Pro 1 Gal Fluid Transfer Pump, I might as well look for the gallon container. If not, I may have to go with the kit. Thanks!

I just used a $25 12v fluid transfer pump from amazon for the first time on an ATF exchange and that’ll be my go-to tool in the future.

The Motive 1735 is good stuff. Especially if you have an air compressor. I have mine dedicated for diff fluid given the specs for my transfer case and magic Toyota fluid being called for. I've done the change twice at this point and wouldn't hesitate to say you can do it given the wealth of info/videos others have posted here on the forums. Give the front diff drain and fill plugs some time with Aerokroil fluid and a couple light taps with a plastic mallet before you start trying to get them off.

And I'd also recommend some sort of alternative front differential drain/fill plugs to replace what came from the factory. Kaon makes good ones you will not struggle with going forward.

The Lexus IS plug works great too.

What's Kaon site? I searched on google but Kaon.com doesn't seem like the right URL.

I already have something like the liquid transfer pump but I believed it's too big to fit in the oil container and/or the fill hole.
I hate those things with a passion. Maybe in a shop environment..

The little electric pump I’m talking about just has hoses that run into the bottle and out to the place you’re putting the fluid. I did have to get jumper cables to have a solid 12v source under the vehicle because the coiled cord isn’t very long. Otherwise it Worked really, really well.

For the diff's, the soft Amsoil Easy packs made it pretty easy. You can get the soft pack up in the tight space, use a small length of tubing on the spout and just squeeze it in.

The kit comes with 7 RAVENOL Gear Oil DGL 75w85 GL-5 LS 1L and 2 RAVENOL Gear Oil MTF-3 75W 1L. Would I need any extra oil or is this plenty for a 2014 LX 570?

Rear differential change is probably the easiest DIY fluid change on the LX570, even easier than changing your oil.

Transfer case is probably equally as involved as changing your oil. The only extra step is removing a cover.

Front differential change isn't hard, provided the drain bolt for your front diff isn't seized. (See the thread referenced above) Recommend ordering the optional front diff plug to swap it out. REPLACE THE FRONT DIFF DRAIN PLUG w/ Improved Lexus Part: 90341-24016
Why is the parts.lexus.com site says this part number does not fit my 2014 LX 570?

Will someone provide a bit more background information about this new part that is better than the original OEM? Thanks!

Edit: the stock plug is notorious for getting stuck and the 10mm internal hex is a major factor there. The IS part has a 14mm external hex.. problem solved.

@bloc, thank you so much for the additional info. Will this plug works for both front and rear diff? I assumed the t-case uses a different plug?

Front diff drain only, which is conveniently the only location people have problems with. Unless you are really corroded none of the others should be a problem.

Okay, just to confirm once again so I that got all the correct parts and things I need.
  1. Front diff. drain plug part# 9034124016
  2. Rear diff. and T-case drain plug part# 90341-14012 -- I need two, right?
  3. Washers: GENUINE TOYOTA GASKET KIT --This kit should cover all my needs for rear/front diff. and t-case fluid change, right?
  4. RAVENOL oil kit
  5. Motive Products 1735 Power Fill Pro Fluid Transfer Pump
  6. LIQUID WRENCH Penetrating Oil
Let me know if I missed anything from this list. I will try to level my vehicle as much as I can inside of my garage. I will also try to measure the amount of liquid coming out so that when I put it back in, it's close to what I took out.

Thank you so much for those who have responded with tips and suggestions, much appreciated!
